Names for them? They look like retextures of current in game models, and aside from spikes - rust paint - and arrows on the bolter, the Spess Mahreen weapons are exact duplicates of the Spiky Spess Mahreen weapons. As they were pre-order bonuses that didn't even show concept art while it was possible to get the pre-order - one might have hoped for more inspired designs. Add some filligree or something - oh this guy's weapon is scratched up blue - doesn't he look like a veteran or at least a retired one living in a senior home. Like it would have been significantly more amazing if there was a design a pre-order weapon contest - winning design gets the rest of the factions pre-order weapons designed around that concept. This would have given great inspiration for future products to release in the rogue-trader store - meaningful founder interaction - and increased founder personal vestment in the game - and very likely - some community fluff/stories for the weapons to make them more badass - like how they were used in previous campaigns or something. Now for Eldar/Ork weapons. GW may have a large variety of weapons for these races but low variety among specific weapons. It's significantly easier - IMHO - to make Ork Warhammer Fantasy weapons look cooler - just look at Warhammer Online concept art. I have no ideas on how they'd want the more "orky" weapons to look in 40k. Same with the Eldar, they're already sleek and alien, and theres very little variation you can make on them - before they look like a different weapon. It's not like Eldar have fillagree like Spess Mahreens do. How would fans of the IP want their veteran Eldar's weapons to look that is more badass than the default ones? I don't know. But then again, thats just my $0.02 --------------------------------------------------------- Edit: Eh...was having a bad day
I don't get why people complain about free stuff...I'm sure down the road if the game is successful enough there will be plenty of shiny new visual candy. Not like people will be forced to use this stuff either.
Chaos weapons are something like : Bolter - "Effossor" Bolter, stolen by Night Lords marauders during attack on the Genesis Chapter fortress, from the spacemarines' Hall of Fame. Chainsword - "Decompose glory" The ancient sword that was created during the time of the Great Crusade, witnessed of the "Sons of Horus" legion falling into the Chaos. Heavy bolter - "Sphacelate bishop" The weapon is named after the patriarch Nurgle cult, who had prepared the Hive World of Hermetica, capital of the Chonma Sector in Segmentum Solar to the Word Bearers attack. Sorry for my ingrish
@RageScreama - Pre-order incentive does not equal free... This was the primary bonus for choosing the next step after ...warrior was it? $40 - $80 for increased RTP and these exclusive weapons. -- It was pointed out that I misread the first post =p Also I just thought of potential achievements these weaps could give - as well as potential mods the guns may have! Fluff is bonus points Say if it has two mods. 1st mod - Higher Caliber Barrel - does 10% increased damage -Fluff Text, "Production started back in the First Tyrannic War. It came about because the mechanicus were struggling on how to deal with the particularly large tyranids. During a war council - while attempting to come up with ideas - a newer mechanicus recruit asked, "Why don't we just use bigger bullets?" A hush covered the older mechanicus. "Boy, we can't just..." trailed off mechanicus George T. Conklins lips. "What if we do use bigger bullets?" That newer mechanicus has oddly dissapeared, but George T. Conklin is credited with this advancement. And all the who's who of Space Marine upper eschelon like to sport this mod." -- 2nd Mod - Archaic - This weapon has the potential to misfire. This misfire can cause a stronger golden(super heated) bullet to appear and cause 25 burn damage - or it could explode. Prolly not though. -Fluff Text, "While this weapon was signifcantly more effective at taking out the larger beasts in the First Tyrannic War, the smaller ones were just so vast in number that many Space Marines equipped with them found themselves running low on ammo. Space Marines would make the best of a dark situation though, and would convert to bashing the oversiszed bugs with great effectiveness. While these weapon are certainly built George T. Tuff, they are starting to show some signs of wear." -- If the weapon does explode and kills the player/s - they'll recieve a steam achievement "Welp. That Happened" - That stupid mechanicus said it was battle-hardened vintage!!! Ooooh... I guess thats what he meant by battle-hardened... http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/First_Tyrannic_War
@Noromiz There is a reason I chose these names. I wanted them to sound less special than for example an Eldar hero's weapon (like a Phoenix Lord's weapon for example). Wrath of Asurmen or Rage of Maugan Ra sound like names of unique weapons for Autarchs for me, but these weapons will be comparably numerous in EC. I like your name for the Shuriken Catapult though. I thought so too first, but these weapons are for everyone who bought the game before this announcement. They are additional items that (us) founders get. Founders will also get the exclusive founder items (at Sergeant and Captain Founder level) and vehicle skins (at Captain level).
@redsimon - oh thats cool. Guess I missed that part. My mistake >.> Well at the very least - I did give them some interesting fluff ideas so I didn't go all negative nancy So have they ever released any kind of concept/info about the sergeant/captain level founder items? I was waiting for info on those to upgrade from Warrior level
I agree with you, after thinking a bit about it. It isn't some near unique or even rare weapons, so they probably should have "legendary" names. I am very happy with the name for the Shuriken Catapult though, since it mixes the actual event and isn't a "legendary" name Shuriken Catapult: "Shuriken Catapult of the First Fall" or simply "First Fall", as an honor to the first Eldar to fight and fall on Arkhona (fitting for a founders and "early" early access buyers). I am trying to come up with more fitting names for the other weapons too, and I hope to find inspiration for them in the Arkhona stories. Though the Chaos Chainsword could be called Baba Ji's fury
Orkz Knife: Da Stabiestik Pistol: Brainsplatta Big Shoota: Rumblin Dakka Space Marine Chainsword: Honorable Chainsword Bolter: Battle-Hardened Bolter Heavy Bolter: Ancient Heavy-Bolter (I dunno lol) Chaos Heavy-Bolter: Daemonic Heavy Bolter Bolter: Possessed Bolter Chainsword: Chainblade of Khorne I don't really have any good names for eldar :/ Not exactly good names but its something
For Chaos I would suggest calling them the "Renegade's X" where X is whatever they are. Or perhaps the "Chosen's X." I dunno.
