Eternal Crusade, the new arena melee game

    A melee guy with a high tier power weapon, unfortunately, breaks heavy weapon or even a knife's guard in one hit. And then one shots the poor defenseless bastard. There's literally no time for the team to save a team mate.
  2. 1 hit weapon break and 1 hit kill, this must be a powerfist or equivalent melee user. Its true that you cant stop someone with a powerfist from killing their target in 2 hits. Your best hope is that the melee user slices into his back disrupting his attacks, or that the rest of your team manages to drop him before he kills your ally.

    I honestly dont see this being much stronger than say, a well placed plasma cannon shot that can 1 shot 1-4 people instantly. It sucks to be 2 hit for sure. The powerfist is a scary ass weapon, but its also the most expensive top tier weapon there is with the very slowest attack range and speed.

    Plasma Canon has 3 shots before cooling. Fast attack however can be spammed indefinitely while lunging the attacker foward. You can dodge a plasma shot, unless at extremely close range, but when you are at a range plasma ball is undodgeable you are also in melee lunging range.

    The fact is, more and more people are playing exclusively melee. Most and more team compositions in matches are almost exclusively melee. This phenomenon has to be addressed and cannot be explained by "welllll a well placed ranged shot can do X and Y".

  4. This is a thing. and the trends becoming worse. I think part of this problem with melee being more powerful started with the nerf on heavy bolter and the boltgun.

    I'm that Heavy Weapon guy, and I've given up relying on my teammates to protect me, because they can't stop someone running right through them and killing me.

    Hit detection issues don't help and seem to be more punishing for ranged than melee.
  7. Sorry to hear that. Its no fun being the heavy weapons guy because everyone is trying to take you out first.

    Saying that even being in melee range means that somehow the ranged user is at fault and deserves to die is flimsy at best because youre going to have to defend an objective or attack one at some point as a tactical marine, you dont get the option of taking that point at range. Furthermore with the server lag and general wonkiness of character animations its difficult to hit people at the kind of ranges we should be able to punish people at. The spread on guns is such that you may get 3-4 hits on the guy before he takes cover IF that. If melee was punished for being caught in the open the way ranged gets punished for getting melee'd then youd have to make the boltgun 3-4 shot people, plasma 2 shot, and youd have to halve the spread on every bolt weapon. It sounds ridiculous, but thats how ridiculous melee is currently. They can choose their engagement, disengage at will, and completely shut down anyone they get the first hit on. If thats not enough they also get auto targeting pistols cause god forbid they have to shoot something, they might miss and thats just unacceptable isnt it....
