Saw this video Got me hyped for seeing some Eldar, mostly their awe inspiring tanks. Seeing the models suspended in the magnetic field seems like perfect grav technology; it hovers, with a slight rocking motion, it's not just stuck on an invisible post with a base (like a normal model or.....) And then I thought of the Vanu from PS2 and got sad since they really aren't much different than normal tanks. This discussion has been had before, with people wanting them to have a "fly" mode, and I would agree, but the devs have specifically said a long time ago that's not happening. So instead, I suggest that grav tanks hover several feet off the ground (making them all but immune to "difficult terrain" treaded vehicles suffer from), rock gently while at a standstill (though the weapons are unaffected due to Eldar arcane technologies), more violently when struck, and have a hop like they do in DoW1 where the grav tank can effectively make a calculated jump between two points. Mechanically, it would be: Grav Tank has 3 fuel cells: They can be used thusly: Boosting: (bound to the Sprint key) Moves the tank very rapidly in whatever direction it was traveling. If it wasn't moving, it moves directly forward. Lift: (Spacebar) Elevates the tank up in the same trajectory as an Assault Marine, can only be activated once. Holding (Spacebar) will momentarily keep the vehicles aloft but will not elevate the tank any further. Plotted Jump: (Right Mouse Button + M) Opens the map and activates a targeting reticule inside the maximum distance the tank can boost towards once. Left clicking closes the map and automatically jumps the grav tank to that location in a very linear path (Up, over, Down). If something is in your way going up or forward (such as a high wall or overhang), you stop moving, crash, and probably die in a flaming inferno. The benefit of doing this unlocks the lift capacity to double it's normal height - but half the boost distance. So if you know you can get up something (like the walls of Blackbolt), the Eldar will not suffer trench warfare in the same way as the other races.... Thoughts? Le tits.
ahaha thats cool i love seeing that trick, awesome to be on that model as well i did think the tanks will hover a small amount like Vanu and do similair tricks but nothing more till long down the line. And we don't need to have a load of falcon jumping around try to dive bomb people or airkill assaults jumping around lol
I plan to play mainly Eldar and CSM. I would love to see this stuff in. I have a burning desire to play a Shining Spear.
Actually in Planetside 2 Magrider plays very differently than other tanks. It has the lowest armour, hp, speed, and as far as I remember even its weapons are generally weaker than their equivalents in other factions (or it's just that due to enemy tanks having more hp, TTK is lower with the same damage per shot - not sure right now). BUT! It was for a long time considered to be the most OP vehicle in the game and not without good reasons. Hovering gave a bit of additional stability to weapons (your aim didn't 'bump' on every little rock etc.), but the main advantage has been the ability to strafe - Magrider didn't have to turn every time it wanted to change it's course, though of course strafing speed was much lower than already low normal speed, and could more easily use rocks/buildings as cover. Also, the weakest rear armour could be always (or usually) kept away from enemy regardless of direction in which it was heading. Of course just the fact that Eldar tanks hover doesn't mean that they also get the strafing ability, but if they do, our Wave Serpents, Fire Prisms etc. most probably will be already OP enough that giving them additional jumpjets would seem insane. Especially since according to TT/Lore Eldar vehicles are generally faster than other tanks, aren't they? So if bE wants to keep that idea, balancing will be already hard (speed AND maneuverability are a potent combo, not to mention that Fire Prisms are supposed to pack quite a punch) without giving us any more unique advantages (as nice as that would be).
The same amount of hp and armour as Prowler, slower than Vanguard. Overall DPS average, but Supernova FPC has insane accuracy and paired with Saron can devastate everything. Don't think so. Magrider was awesome in good hands and really cool for outflanking. But against skilled enemy pilot you gonna have a bad odds. Still hope to see strafing ability for grav vehicles. Vipers included. And don't forget, PS2 havn't weapons like Heavy Bolters and Plasmacannons, that can already pierce predators and melt rhinos. With lower armor fancytanks can get wrecked really fast if they gonna stay still. At least deepstrike for Falcons and Afterburners for all (because of Fast Skimmer) should be. And pilot controlled hull weapons, of course.
Sadly most of what you describe falls into the no flying category. The hop is totally out of the picture, you could jump to abusive spots you are not supposed to get to with a vehicle. The hovering over the ground I would like so that you don't lose aim because of a slight bumb, but it can't be high enough so that you hover over for example tank traps.
Back in one of the twitchs Nathan addressed this. Dont quote me, but They will not be flying, just hovering (animation wise) outside of that they said we couldnt fly over stuff, but hey, its alpha anything can change. I love your ideas man. If we got all that, it would be epic
7. Will Eldar vehicles, or any skimmers, be able to adjust their elevation a small amount? I ask because it would be neat to cruise a bit higher so as not to run friendlies over (only if they're crouching?) but can go lower to run enemies over. The manta in Unreal Torunament 3 is an example of what I mean (not it's jump). A video example in this youtube video @0:45 and beyond. BRENT ELLISON: Probably not, Level Design’s already having enough trouble managing vehicle/non-vehicle spaces at the moment. If the grav tanks can change their elevation they’d basically be able to get just about anywhere. http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/q-a-answers-compilation-thread.32349/page-2
+1 for Eldar grav-tanks being able o get just about anywhere. >_> I love the mag-rider in PS2 because of how much it makes me think of the Eldar. For the core, similar mechanics should be good.
