I don't think map pings are taken seriously enough or make enough of a bold underlining urgency other than the squad leaders directive, rare as they may be at times.

And it is so inefficient to stop what your doing, and type some basic command that probably wouldn't be listened to anyway. Voice chat being as rare as it is tends to command far more attention so I definitely see it's merits.
