The quicksilver scope is the only one that is viable imho. I believe it is a 1x or 1.4x. The main issue with the scopes for me is the sensitivity, it is set too low for most of them.
The main issue with scopes is that at the ranges you would need to use them, the weapon they are attached to is useless.
Anyone else find it weird that Astartes actually line their scopes up with their helmet lenses when zooming in? I mean, given the level of tech and optics Astartes use, shouldn't the scope really be a high-quality camera with the feed linked to the Astartes' helmet? And no, Astartes do NOT actually look through the lenses of their helmets to see, as that would limit their field of vision so ridiculously much it's absurd for them to have been designed that way in the 30th millennium. They're absolutely getting some sort of camera footage from the lenses to inside their helmets to provide a decent view, like any sensible high-tech power armor helmet would do.
I think its actually lore friendly for eldars also. I remember something like a PIP display in one of the books, i think it was the Path of the Warrior
We actually have similar stuff IRL. There's an Israeli gun peripheral called the "Cross-shot" or something like that which has a mechanism for holding and firing a small weapon 90 degrees from the wielder, with a camera with the weapon and a small but clear screen on the bearer's end, to allow a soldier to see and shoot around corners without exposing themself at all. What made me think of it though was John Ringo's sci-fi series about the Posleen. The power armored troops in those books eventually developed a strategy of fighting in trenches and holding their guns over the lip of their trench. They could see just fine since their guns had cameras with the feed linked to their helmets, but it exposed only their weapons and hands to the enemy.
Eh, like I said the Quicksilver boltgun scope seems to only be 1-1.4x, that is entirely viable at short range, if it didn't also have the sensitivity of the 4x scope...which is like 150dpi...too freaking slow.
I am sure they even had a rifle in the first or second world war designed to shoot out of trenches without putting the person in danger. Ofc the camera was replaced with a mirror but still. I was talking wh40k lore wise. Not everything lore wise actually makes sense cause you know ... adeptus mechanicus misplacing all of their knowledge and stuff. Also that rifle you are talking about, you still have to look in that silly screen fucking up your peripheral view, when they put it on google glass and then only you can call them space marines
