This game has a chance for greatness if they decide to combine the console servers with the PC's. This is very easy to do. An Example of this is FF14. They now hold around 5 million subscribers, making it one of the most successful Games of all time. This is 100% because that it is cross platform. The game gives friend a chance to play together, when they normaly never would because of they preference of system in which they choose to play games on. it also lures people to play the game, when they would not if it wasn't for the fact their friends play it, and they can now play with them. Eternal crusades has a free to play mode, this would bring in countless people from all platforms, because not only is the game free, but they can play with or against their friends and family. The high player base would raise the amount of people subscribing, and purchasing the game, to play the other factions with their friends, or upgrading via the rouge trader...... Please make the game cross platform, there is nothing to lose by doing this. Only things to gain $$$, more players, happeir and all around better game play exp for everyone.
Please consider Behavior has no control over policies set by the Console developers. Yes, Sony has had a history of dealing with PC Games, however, take note PlanetSide 2 is NOT cross platform. They have their own servers. So it's not like Sony always allows it. Also, Microsoft and Sony do not get along. Behavior could be in deep shit if they try to make only two platforms cross while leaving separate servers for just the third. Behavior does not have those options.
While I agree the task may be herculean, that's not to say it wouldn't be a great idea. Getting Microsoft and Sony to both play nice would be a major coup. Who knows, maybe @Oveur has the silver tongue to get this discussion somewhere. The worst they can say is no, they can't kill 'im and eat 'im, lol. Just because a thing is hard and has never been done, doesn't mean it can't be tried and won.
Well no, Microsoft has written polices preventing such a thing so... You're aiming to change corporate Culture. That's not something that can be done with negotiations.
FF has long been a part of the sony franchize. Of course they would allow cross platform: nearly every FF game ever made has been made for Playstation. And now that Enix is actively making games for microsoft platforms, they will be even more desperate for exclusivity. Warhammer, on the other hand, has no playstation titles and, outside of this would be cross platform, not likely to ever receive any installments. All sony is going to see is how much money this is going to make microsoft if they agree to it, and it will be a hell of a lot more than what sony will get if EC were to succeed. Because that success will most likely roll over to more microsoft titles and not more sony titles. Not to mention they would have double the market saturation in that scenario, between xbox and pc players. The more playstation players play, the more xbox and pc players will play, the bigger the disparity between sony and microsoft becomes. It will be a cold day in hell before sony agrees.
Frankly, the only was you change policy in a corporate setting is through negotiation. You talk to the right people, get them on board, they spread the message and before long you have everyone on the bandwagon and half of them taking credit for the idea, lol. I've been in "corporate culture" for decades and seen WRITTEN IN STONE policies edited or abandoned within a month of adoption, lol. Nothing's impossible, though it may be akin to herding cats.
There's also another reason I think they shouldn't. Analog vs mouse. A pc player using a mouse will always have an advantage over someone using a stick. Plus damn near every console release has bullet magnetism and that stupid thing where your sight will follow an enemy to a certain degree even if you're not moving the stick(can't remember the term for it). Granted these are ok for a console because of the lack of precision a stick has over a mouse. But when it comes to mixing the two it's only going to cause frustration for the people who can't do a 180 on a dime and land a pinpoint shot 100 meters away. That said melee was always so much easier and natural to me on a stick, though. And I'm definitely a cqc player
The devs have been playing with mouse and keyboard as well as controllers already so I'm guessing they have camera speed and reticule speed adjustment in for controller support. While I'd be inclined to agree with you in most shooters, where the time to kill is very short, I think the TTK in EC is long enough to make less of a difference and I'm sure we'll see adjustments to TTK after FA starts. Will be interesting to watch how it plays out.
I completely forgot to factor in TTK. Given the nature of regenerating health, medics, and the TTK, a stick should be somewhat balanced against a mouse. Plus the changes to the devestator with a slow turn if he's braced. They'll probably be able to balance it fairly well in this case.
