  1. Who's the GM here? -Ahem-

When fully grown, perhaps 18 feet long, 50 feet wingspan. Keep in mind that the Beasts do not start at full size. @Uriel1339 Ethon is a good starting point

Well, Temvero keeps bugging me over Steam, so I may as well post this thing I drew up:

    Name: Cacasus
    Age: 97
    Chapter: Dark Angels (officially)
Battle Style: Snare and assault. Dark Angels combat doctrine typically involves a detatchement of the Ravenwing as an alpha strike to close the distance, flank enemy positions, and single out enemy targets while the slower but more steadfast maries of the battle companies occupy the foe's forward attention. Cacasus and Diolux have observed this in a smaller scale, with Cacasus battening down his foes with bolter and ceramite while Diolux surges in for the ambush with fang and claw
Equipment: Stalker bolter and serrated combat knife
Looks: An ordinary Dark Angel with grey hair
Personality: As with most Dark Angels, Cacasus is a man of few words and is quiet with the words he does say. Unlike most Dark Angels, however, this is not out of distrust of those around him or a seething, cold resentment of the chapter's enemies; he is simply a curt and dry speaker. Although it's hard to tell from his phrasing, he has opened up quickly to the other marines in Josun's conclave.

    Beast Name: Diolux
    Beast Age: unknown, assumed 17
    Beast Species: Temmoros wildcat
    Beast Gender: assumed male
Beast Size: 7 feet long, 5.5 feet at the shoulders
Beast Personality: Full grown, but still a cheeky juvenile at heart. Expresses his moods through color changes in its chamelionic feathers
How you met your Beast: During a Dark Angels/Salamanders joint operation on the agri-world Temmoros, Cacasus's assault squad had been separated from the company at large. Taking shelter in their stranded Rhino, the squad put Cacasus as the sentry, but very nearly put them off it when he refused to shoot the wildcats that crossed the perimeter, stating he wouldn't waste a boltshell on a harmless animal. Tensions only continued to mount when the squad decided to march to the nearest settlement, when the wildcats continued to pay the squad special interest. Cacasus still refused to let the squad fire upon the creatures, insisting "a band of juveniles" wouldn't dare attack the Astartes.

The squad sergeant was furious at this display, going off on a harangue over Cacasus breaking his focus on such a frivolous study of the creatures. Further, one of the cats was bold enough each night to wander up within arm's reach of the young marine, prompting the two to stare each other down in a display of dominance and resolve. The Sergeant, furious at what he perceived to be indignation, promised to report Cacasus to the chaplains. As fate would have it, the squad met up with the Salamanders under Josun's command first, who saw the potential in Cacasus and the young wildcat who'd followed the Dark Angels into the city. Josun quickly petitioned the Dark Angels company master for custody of the marine and his beast for the rest of the campaign.

The challenge I took on here was making a Dark Angel, a member of a chapter who are only interesting when they're playing cat and mouse with their stupid Fallen and showing off eleven thousand year old technology, viable for an empathetic "beast tamer" scenario

  3. Hey guys, here was an idea I had, curious what you thought:

A 'breeding' mechanic where you gain a second beast (same species) over Gameplay (Both of which will gain traits, as will players), and eventually will breed another, which will inherit traits from the parents, and allow a continuation of the beasts beyond their natural Lifespan. (Which is almost certainly shorter than an Astartes')

    How you met your Beast:
It was the Purge of Illnack III That Caught most of the Clan's attention on Varrick, During This Purge The Iron hand's Clan of Haarak Landed on a desert Death world To engage advance forces of the black legion. Varrick and his squad were positioned at a right Flank Told to hold a sand dune While the rest of the clan landed. To the Last Varrick held the line, Even when ordered to pull out, As artillery began landing around him, He was taken off one of his feet literally, And his body was thrown in a sand pit, As he slowly sank in Traitor Forces laughed as they heard the marine curse and have attentively Fire at them.

As the Marine Was buried alive in the sand, He felt his own rage simmer, As he thought this was the end, After Hours of sinking, He fell into a large cavern, Landing several from a several feet fall, The Iron hand began, To Crawl his way around the Cavern, Then stumble As he looked for a source of light, It was soon that he discovered the scorpions of this world, and a Even greater threat that the chapter needed to be Informed of A dorment Necron Tomb, For Several Days he began Crawling and making his way around the tunnels Soon finding ones leading to the surface, As he made his way through the caves he had seen Several scorpion like Predators, That seem to eat the metal around the tombs and seem to chip away at the formations of rock,

One particularly small scorpion began following him, Picking at his Bionic hand as he attempted to rest, or tried to stop, Whenever he would try to kill it it would move behind cover, He soon began finding more and more of these scorpions of bigger size, Some that were even bigger then razor backs, He moved more carefully each time he saw bigger one, Soon enough he began following them soon finding out that they made regular trips to the surfaces to hunt and even dragged down pray, He soon began finding trails of were the scorpions would drag down large pray, Even spotting marks of a space marine dragged and even parts to a destroyed Rhino.

As time wen't on Varrick soon found himself attempting to befriend and even train the scorpion that followed him. Soon making Progress he began using this Scorpion he named Vix to find his way out eventually making his way back to the surface, The entrance he came upon was a Past battle grounds. Dead Black legionaries and even several iron hands, Litter the battlefields as he saw larger versions of the conscription that followed him picking apart the dead. Using this time, he was able to call for thunder hawk extraction and was able to give the location of the Necron tomb, During His return to the clan in the fight,

He was labeled a Failure for not Retreating when ordered to, But was able to make up for it with returning of information of the necron tomb, For penance he and a small team of Iron hands were to take a plasma bomb inside the middle of the tomb to bomb it. Using his Small scorpion Companion and his memory of the Cave system from his time spent underground Varrick was able to plant the Plamsa bomb before the necrons began waking up. Though on there way out a ambush of Black legionaries had cut them off, Causalities were high, and even his small comrade took some damage, having one of her Pincers and a few of her legs blow off. Upon returning to the chapter Many looked at Varrick as weak for having such a close attachment to his scorpion and he soon found himself Being more and more reclusive but spending more time with Scorpion he named Nix, Forging up his own Bionics for the creature he soon brought it back to health, Learning of this the Clan captain decided to send Varrick and Nix off to the newly made of Beast conclave for the time he spends with scorpion.

He has since fought on many many planets with a native animal life and has developed a love of animals not common in the Astartes. Name: Zafira Vulture Huntress of Feralheart Keep

    Age:
    31

    Tribe:
    Eastern Desert

Battle Style: Zafira is not much of a fighter; she knows how to wrestle a budding beast of her size to the ground and pacify it, however.

Equipment: While Zafira has most of her equipment stored at Feralheart Keep, she is not usually found without her basic gear of beast husbandry.

Looks: A typical clanswoman of the East, Zafira is a tall and bronze-skinned female with long black hair, dark eyes, and skin marred by a multitude of claw and bite scars - including the lack of half her right ring finger, bitten off at the middle joint.

Experience has taught the woman not to wear jewelry, long-sleeved clothing, or anything too loose, though Zafira still does prefer conservative clothing that reveals nothing, or at least, not much. In her hair, over her left temple, there is a long braid, tied with gold band and untouched by any blade for years, serving as a simple sign of her matrimonious bond.

Personality: Once a fierce and highly ambitious young huntress, age, scars, and the companionship of Josun have mellowed out Zafira considerably. A woman possessing an inner calm that is rarely broken, few see this caretaker of beasts without a soft smile in her face and a few helpful words on her tongue. She loves her work and the tradition behind it, finding the proximity of young beasts calming just as her empathy for man and animal allows her to calm the beasts in turn. Zafira has no particular love for technology however, seeing it as an easy way to lose ones heritage - making no exclusion for her husband and his Sky-Man technology.

Living with Josun for so long has dulled her awe at the divine Sky-Men and Josun's pupils in particular, but she still treats them with as much respect as any other living being, even if she considers them inexperienced and is quite willing to have a laugh at their expense - without any intended malice. She does, however, feel a sense of duty to provide what guidance she can, whenever possible.

The Beastmaster Josun himself, she views with adoration, and the woman makes no secret of the fact that she is quite happy with her fate as what is basically a trophy - since even with all illusions about the Sky-Men dispelled, working so close with one is quite the font of pride for the desert woman.

History: Born to a Desert Tribe shaman of the Vulture totem and his huntress wife, Zafira's life was dominated by a mixture of the teachings of the Vulture - that all death and all life serves a purpose in one great cycle - and the training to kill in a way that would cause little damage to the animal's body and the least amount of pain possible. As she grew up, the girl set out to become a huntress like her mother, but wished to maintain her father's teachings; so Zafira sought out as much beast lore as she could; how their bodies worked, how they acted, lived, and eventually, died, and which creatures would benefit from their deaths. This was an unusual course of action among the tribe's hunters, who contented themselves with the art of killing all too often, and so, Zafira was viewed with some suspicion.

This changed not until Zafira had turned fifteen, and was eligible for marriage. Barely a day after, her home tribe was attacked by a ferocious Chimaera of the desert, a creature taller than their greatest tents and powerful enough to kill five men with one blow. Many a warrior died that day, for they were not prepared for such a beast to attack them. Zafira herself was no different, and too earned many scars in a desperate bid to stop its rampage. She was, however, luckily knocked aside and fell unconscious before it could do much more damage to her.

The creature was eventually slain by the timely arrival of a demigod from the heavens; a Sky-Man named Josun was passing by in search of a challenge and to study the beasts of this word, and happened upon the nomads fighting for their lives. Without hesitation, he charged into battle, and eventually, as dusk had settled over the desert and the winds had grown icy, he would slay the beast.

With the tribe's leader slain, the father of Zafira had become a temporary head, and it had been the tradition of this tribe to reward those men who were powerful enough to slay such a beast with the ceremonial acceptance into the Clans. Such a ritual was done by matrimony to the child of a chieftain, and so, Zafira was chosen to be taken as the man's wife. Josun, ever curious for this world's indigenous people and a man of great honour, accepted, knowing that he would severely hurt the pride of this folk if he declined.

And so, Zafira the Vulture Huntress was married to Josun the Slayer of Sandterror the Man-Eater, as was attributed to him. The Sky-Man took her with him on his travels, and eventually to Feralheart Keep, where he would discover her talents with the beasts of this world, and imparted his knowledge upon her as well.

Now, Zafira stands at her husband's side, and takes care of the creatures and inhabitants of Feralheart, all living things honoured in her heart and guarded under her watchful eye.
