Premise: There is a certain affinity that is hidden among those Astartes with the potential to become a Beast Tamer, one that is hard to describe or feel, unless one has accepted it. The first to do so was Josun De’Fask of the Salamanders, now current Grand Tamer of the Conclave Animalia, a newly formed covenant, one to become an elite force of uncommon Astartes, one that would grow in power and prestige. The players, in the beginning, will be among the first Beast Tamers ever recruited, these ones by Grand Tamer Josun himself. The RP will begin at the end of their Induction into the Conclave. These Characters will eventually become part of the elite of the Conclave, and, after a while, will be put into the background, becoming Part-time characters, to be played during special events, such as Council meetings. This means that the players will create a new set of inductees, mentored by their old character similar to @WanderingJester ‘s Original Chapter RP. The Players will be limited to choices of the 1st founding chapters, due to the consensus of their Chapter Masters, for this abilities to be among only the most loyal chapters. Example Beasts: Spoiler (All Strains are large enough to grow into a mount suitable for Astartes) #1 - Dark Angels; Calibanite Lions #2 - White Scars; Jaguars #3 - Space Wolves; Thunderwolves #4 - Imperial Fists; Rhinos #5 - Blood Angels; Pegasus #6 - Iron Hands; Scorpions #7 - Ultramarines; Eagles #8 - Salamanders; Firedrakes #9 - Raven Guard; Ravens Feel free to use a different animal or beast, but it must be compatible with the chapter's ideals, and as always, I reserve the right to ask for adjustments. To be clear, the beast, at the start, will be too small to be used as mount. Instead it will be a hunting mate, if you both survive long enough, you can grow it to be a mountable animal. In addition, you will be playing your beasts as a secondary character. Also, at certain points, you will gain a second creature of the opposite gender, they will mate, and produce an offspring sharing traits from both of them, allowing players to always have an effective companion despite natural lifespans. Character Sheet: Spoiler Name: Age: (About 100 years) Chapter: Battle Style: (How the Character and their Beast fight) Equipment: (Basic Starting Equipment) Looks: Personality: History: Beast Name: Beast Age: Beast Species: Beast Gender: Beast Size Beast Personality: How you met your Beast: Grand Tamer Josun (Example CS): Spoiler Name: Josun De'Fask Age: 145 Chapter: Salamander Battle Style: Rides into close combat on his companion, but fights on foot, as a pair. Equipment: 2-handed Flaming Power Sword, Relic Armor, Wrist-Mounted bolt-pistols Looks: Tall, and lean, stands 5'' over most astartes. Neck-length Crimson Hair, and a body covered in various scars. Glowing red eyes and Pitch-black skin, courtesy of the Salamander's Gene-Seed Personality: A calm and friendly marine, he has mellowed some with the new resposibility thrust upon him. He is always willing to help his comrades and students. He still fight ferociously on the battlefield, fighting ever harder when allies are in danger History: The story of The Grand Tamer has quickly become legend in the Halls of the Salamanders. Spoiler Following his new title, Josun quickly developed many styles of battle that complimented the union of beast and Astartes. As he trained, there was always a presence in the back of his mind, one that he found later to be the link of all Beast Tamers. With this in mind, an adolescent Firedrake, and a feeling of purpose, Josun went to Chapter Master Tu'Shan, and petitioned for the allowance to seek out such younglings, and teach them in the ways of Beast Taming. Tu'Shan, after conferring with the other Chapter Masters, and having Josun prove his skill, agreed. The leaders of the Original Legions allowed the Formation of a new Conclave, and Josun, after all was said and done, he left to find individuals that shared the seed of affinity... Beast Name: Kor'Sal Beast Age: 32 Beast Species: Firedrake Beast Size: 30 feet long, 8 feet tall at the shoulder Beast Personality: Loyal until death, ferocious, protective How you met your Beast: A legendary feat, the story that was the emergence of the Beast-Tamers Spoiler To slay one of the ferocious Firedrakes of Nocturne. These beasts are the deadliest on the planet... but also some of the most loyal to their kind. The same loyalty that Josun held himself to... to fight ferociously in the face of danger to protect their kin. To slay such a beast, as his father Vulkan had... it was a tremendous honor to have survived to have even have that chance. And so he climbed mount deathfire, sword in place on his back, as he searched for a den. What he finds is not what he expects. A pair of nests in a cave, each with a single whelp... and the parents missing. Perhaps one of the others had cleared that place already, but the younglings were left. But not helpless, as Josun found out when the male took a slash to his side, gaining him the first of many scars. These lives were not to be wasted, and Josun roared in fury, wrestled the Drakes into submission, before hefting the male and female on his shoulders, and picking his way back to where he had come from. Many odd looks and chuckles came from the crowd when Josun returned, obviously two drakes, the smallest trophies ever returned, not much proof of skill... until they moved. Quickly they were set down, and as the onlookers scrambled for weapons, the Drakes roared. Josun roared back, and yet again did they fight, Josun gaining more gashes that would scar. Finally impressed with and subdued by the apparent skill that no Salamander had ever shown before, Josun stood straight, and declared: "These Firedrakes are my companions!" The proctors, stunned, withdrew and conferred. Hours later, Josun got a surprise when he was approached by Chapter Master Tu'Shan, and declared the first of a new breed of Salamander... the Beast Tamer. And so Josun took a different path than any other Salamander ever had, trained in the arts of combat and hunting, even as he fought the young Firedrakes, slowly but surely asserting himself as the Patriarch of their group. And finally, one day, he was accepted. And Josun began to create his own style, the style of the Beast Tamer, a new path for the chapter, and one that this young marine would eventually teach to others of aptitude and skill. Combat Mechanics: Spoiler During all direct combat scenarios and actions against the enemy will have overall structure from me but the details will be up to the players (i.e. I'll write something like "you can kill three guys, or two and strike at the mini boss" or the such, and allow the player to improvise how he kills them). If players would like to take some sort of direct action not offered, simply run it by me in I'll give you the possible results of that action. Mooks (Untitled enemies) Are able to be killed to the number given. Titled enemies, [Elites ; Minibosses ; Bosses ; Superbosses ] Are all enemies that you must post strikes for, rather than outright killing them. Your characters can also take wounds. Wounds will work with light, medium and heavy. Light wounds are superficial, they won't affect a character's ability, but the player must acknowledge that they occur during the post. Players may also have the liberty of doing this on their own, though during some situations I will require this to happen to characters. Medium wounds will affect the combat capability of a character, either through a disability that prevents using certain equipment or just a decrease in effectiveness. Heavy wounds completely incapacitates the character; he becomes vulnerable to an execution move by an enemy if not aided by a comrade. IC THREAD
Would Iron hands be able to add bionics to there Tamed beast, Like robo scorpions, Or space wolves cyber wolves?
Yo what about special classes and what exactly is 'basic' equipment? I figure that Beastmaster technically is it's own new specialty. Like Chaplain, Librarian, etc. But can one be Apothecary AND Beastmaster? (de facto turning one into an animal-apothecary?) or can one be a Librarian AND beastmaster and make him defacto some sort of 'Animal Whisperer'? Basic equipment I simply assume the normal stuff. Bolter, Flamethrower, Chainsword, perhaps a Jump Pack (assaults, yay!), Heavy Bolter, Las Cannon or Missile Launcher (Devastator, yay!) but no Power Weapons or Specials like Melta, Plasma, and so on.
Bionics will be used as they are for most chapters: As replacements for what is lost in battle. But not as just added things, as they wouldn't understand., and would most likely lose trust if you just randomly cut off a limb. You got it. The Beast Tamer is a new specialty, so no hybrids will be allowed. However, to combat this, they are trained in basic field medicine, including veterinary care. Honestly, the best loadout will depend on your battle style. I like to think, as a rule, they tend to prefer "smaller" weapons (bolters, shotguns, etc.) and CQC weapons. Even some non-standards, such as lances once we get to the mount stage. Just try and be reasonable, and again, I reserve the right to ask for adjustments.
Aren't most libraians allowed Familiars, If so would are beast tamers Ever help them get a familliar?
Well... no. Because familiars are not just random beasts, they are psychic support beings. What makes the Beast Tamers special is their ability to tame beasts, and fight and live with them as if they were one being, not two. This has no link to the warp or psykers...
Name: Promethus Age: 89 Chapter: Ultramarines Battle Style: Hit and Run Devastator Companion defends him in close combat, while he takes out heavier armored targets out on range. Equipment: Missile Launcher, Chainsword, Bolt Pistol Looks: Short buzzcut blonde hair, sapphire blue eyes, standing 7 feet tall, lean body, armored in MKVII "Errant" Armor. Personality: Tactical warrior, mind over matter, teamwork delivers victory, pride is the worst, patience is a virtue. Promethus therefore believes strongly that one should never succumb to seeking glory and should keep focus on the mission. History: Promethus like any aspirant of Ultramar was trained from a very young childhood on. He never excelled in anything truly, until he was ready for anti-tank training. He even managed to hit a critical point of a training Rhino with a missile without targeting aims on a half kilometer. Some say it was luck, others say his eyes are blessed with those of an eagle. However, whenever out of combat or training he disappeared from his quarters and spent in the nature. Trailing around, feeding animals, especially birds, with quarter of his daily bread. It soothed his soul to see the animals work perfectly in nature, even though he was aware that there was a food chain - which especially was important for the ecosystem to work. Once he became a full battle-brother and like any Astartes at his age started out in the Reserve companies of a Devastator, he showed his true potential at picking out individual and important targets. It made him usually being deployed with a Las Cannon or his personal preference - the missile launcher. He served for sixty-six years before the fateful day came and he was approached by Chief Librarian Varro Tigurius and Chapter Master Marneus Augustus Calgar... Beast Name: Ethon Beast Age: 5 Beast Species: Espandorian Steel Eagle Gender: Female Beast Size: 6 feet beak to tail feather; wingspan (stretched) of 15 feet Beast Personality: Loyal, flirting, intelligent, mischievous out of combat. Ethon is everything a free-bird would be and more. It is like she is aware that serving at the side of Promethus grants her a special status, which she freely uses to prank other humans. Promethus himself believes it is her revenge for him believing at first she was a male, which resulted in her having a boyish name. Interesting enough, the Ultramarine discovered that it allows quite a unique combat style between the two of them. She tends to strike quick out of nowhere, swooping down and picking up enemies, then drop them from a height. While they fall down, Promethus would prime a missile on them to either blow them up mid-air or short after colliding on the ground, at least those with power armor or equivalent, which her beak could not penetrate. How you met your Beast: After some sort of secret meeting, Tigurius and Calgar had heard tales about a man who as Aspirant spend a lot of time in nature. They looked for that boy who was now a full-fledged Battle-Brother, who turned out to be Promethus. Therefore they shared Josun De'Fasks knowledge of 'Beast Taming' with him and then sent him to Espandor to do equally as his Salamander-cousin before. There Promethus climbed in the middle of the night on a two-thousand-foot mountain without power armor, to be sneakier, the Espandorian Steel Eagles were territorial and had wings sharp as steel and their beaks were said to be able to penetrate Power Armor after several thrusts. Which is why there was no nearby settlement of this mountain. However, the Space Marine had no fear and he was certain that he would accomplish the given task - there was no other option, anyway. So once he reached the actual nest of an Espandorian Steel Eagle, and looked upon the sleeping mother with two semi-grown children and two eggs, he knew that his best chance was with one of the eggs... Very slowly he crouched closer, stretching his arm out. Inch by inch, his eyes all the time switching between the various eagles. Until his fingertips touched the egg and he slowly rolled it closer, until he could grab it under his arm. However. Just then when he was about to make his descend... It started to hatch! His eyes widened as he could watch the cracks grow, until suddenly a head pushed out and the bird squeeled as loud as it could. "Shhh! Shhh, little fellah." But it was too late, the mother and the siblings woke up and darted their eyes at the Space Marine. Without thinking twice he started to make his descent rather quick, sliding down the mountain and jumping between the various gaps, climbing as fast as he could. The Eagles took into the air and started to attack the man, trying to cut him into pieces with their sharp wings or tear him apart with his beaks. He ducked and leaped and ran in circles. The mother went for a final attack after Promethus was weakened with dozens of deep scratches, but ever-holding tight on the egg and the chirping hatchling. However, he jumped forward and landed on the twenty-five foot long bird. It squirmed at him, but he simply pushed it down on it's neck and forced it down with all his strength. An aerial struggle enduring thirty minutes occurred and eventually in around five hundred feet height, the Eagle made a wild shaking motion. Promethus lost the egg and it started to fall, accompanied by the scared squirms of the baby-hatchling. The moment he noticed he dived after it - not caring about the consequences. The mother-bird noticed this too late, but watched the Human dive - and catched the now fully hatched bird (as the eggshell dropped to the floor). He closed his eyes as he rotated with his back to the ground, holding the bird over his chest in both hands to protect the little animal, believing he would die. However when he came to a halt, a lack of splattering and breaking his spine was lacking and he was slowly laid down on the ground. The two mid-sized adult siblings of the hatchling caught him short before impact on their backs and put him gently on the ground. The mother arrived short after and a discussion among the birdlings came on. Promethus didn't speak Espandorian Steel Eagle so could only guess, but the motions of the animals were pretty straight-forward. Eventually the siblings stepped aside to let the mother approach the now sitting Devastator and his kidnapped bird. Surprisingly she embraced him with her wings in a hug. Then gave him a serious, if not even evil glare and then flew off. He was very confused, but figured that somehow he was accepted as big brother, father, mother, or legal guardian of some sort. "Well little boy, seems like it's just you and me now. I think I call you Ethon." The bird made an angry noise and Promethus would not understand until three years later...
