That's the thing, SBs would have to change their playstyle and not try to hunt down people and storm into rooms headfirst but push up to positions with ranged classes follow up and then when they breached they can unleash melee. I'm even ok with having 3 movement speeds, walking, sprinting (slightly slower than a Tac) and sprinting with raised shield (slightly faster than walking).
Why SB so OP especially against ranged classes is in thier opportunity to defence with shields and after roll using iframes to reach the enemy. That makes SB not defensive but offensive melee class which easily breaks the distance with an opponent without any serious losses. In melee with SB there are just annoying sheild's hitboxes. As a result, playing for the СSM I removed from loadouts bolter, stormbolter and after the nerf PC. And what now to do? Play MoN or run away entire faction from SBs?
The game is meant to emphasize teamplay, yes, but rendering a class incapable of engaging in 1v1 is NOT how you do that. Furthermore, do you know what having ranged classes behind you while you "push up to positions" does, in practice? It gets you shot in the back. A lot. No thanks.
How would that render anyone incapable of engaging in 1v1? You would have just to utilise the shield more instead of rolling around like a moron. Shields can block melee weapons too There's something called aim. And I think you imagine this a little too stactic here, obviously it won't be like a line battle.
That iframe is the single reason why the Plasma Gun is also ineffective. A charge shot can be completely ignored and the regular shots can be shrugged off. Why? Gun is overheated at that point and that shield is already recharging its durability. Being honest, outside of being melee, not many things can actually deal with a shield bro 1v1. The shield bro isn't OP it is just all of his counters have been nerfed into the ground and the shield can passively block even when broken. Sure you can use a krak, but that is reaaaaalllyy hard to do. Maybe Ill try melta bombs one day against them. I hardly ever see that weapon anymore. Edit: Then again that passive block is pretty ridiculous.
You can't engage in 1v1 if you are melee-only and move slower than most other classes. They will simply kite you to death and laugh... as I think you said yourself, earlier. Your problem isn't the shield, it's the way it interacts with rolling. This is... odd, because the PG's fakeout game is strong. Latency is bad enough that there's no hope of dodging a charged shot once fired, so most people will dodge the moment they see the full-charge glow, at which point their trajectory is fixed. You call it aim, I call it "trusting internet randos not to suck/be asshats." That's not something to build a class' core gameplay off of.
You also take much less damage than other classes. Let em kite then! And with the new accuracy system kiting while shooting will be much harder. I suggested a sprint with raised shield. If I understand you correctly, a class that is as fast as other classes when sprinting, as agile in 1v1 melee, doesn't take damage from one side when sprinting, is as capable in the offense as the supposedly most offensive class, does not take any damage from the most common and versatile ranged weapon and at the same time is meant to be more defensive doesn't have any issues conceptually? The only issue are a few bugs?
Frankly I don't care anymore. I've said time and time again I don't think the shield is OP but I think being top tier in defense and top tier in offense at the same time is problematic to say the least. People are so paranoid that whenever you suggest a change they pull out their forks and besiege your house. It's impossible someone just thinks a different approach would be better for the game as a whole right? I'm well aware nothings going to change though.
Unfortunately common place these days, not just in EC. Something is broken or performing a little better than it should? There are no calls for bringing it in line with everything else, people want it gone, destroyed, never to be seen again. Thankfully all the shield bro threads, despite the conflict within them, have had some constructive talk going on as well.
