Now I don't know. It makes sense in one sense to limit to give it a more 40K feel if all have race appropriate 40K names. At the same time, those that like the freedom to name their own characters like above, will likely want to do that. And maybe they should be able to? Depends on what is priority to devs: freedom or controlling the in game environment.
I voted for Canonical only because its the option of those two that suits me. But i would be okay with a light Naming Restriction and a Report Button for all those Legolaz/Legolazz/Legolazzz/....
Freedom is a right, who are we to limit or impose on the various forms it takes. By all means Let xXxXWeedwizard420noscopeXxXx have his stupid name. But by the same token, give us the tools to change it. -X amount of reports for naming are accrued. __________ and so's character would then be given a Cannon name from a random generator.
I'm all for a system that keeps down terribad names. No need to be uber-restrictive, but yeah...XxxUBER_WARRIORxxX should not be a thing in EC.... or ShotByUrMOM etc
I voted Canonical, however I think there needs to be a little bit of a grey area, and Also I think there should be a First Name/Last Name system as to cut out any numbers... in fact I think only A-Z (and all the other extra characters like Å) should be used, you don't get actual names with 02 or ! in them, so I think they should not be allowed. I guess a reporting system could be but in place, you would not get a warning or anything bad, it would just say something like "your name has been reported as lore braking, please select a new name" in with they will be allowed/forced to chose a new name the next time they are in a menu, of course these reports should be screened as to eliminate trolling. I would enjoy a system like in Iron Realms, for example. If your name is a silly internet name, not a fantasy (or in this case, sci-fi) name, you are out. But then again, this could cause a lot of pressure for people to think up names, especially if they also would have to fit in with the faction they play. So the other option could simply be that you dont see the names of everyone all the time, only if they are in your team or something.
