Will this ever be a thing? I could see how it wouldnt work well just yet but I'd love to have a challenge ability. Even just one hero to another
Would be cool to have a duel map and an enemies or rivals list to go alongside the friends list It could double as just a straight deathmatch map for teams too if someone wanted a 5 on 5 for example.
That's the only way I like my Lobby-shooter: if it is for training purpose (i.e. Duels 1vs1, 5vs5, ...) Disable XP-gain to prevent farming and we are good to go.

The short answer is later, when other things have been attended to, it'd be fun, blah, blah, blah...there, I paraphrased some dev at some point. I'd expect post launch of if not, it'd probably be at launch, my guesstimate personally.
But it definitely will not be put in to the open PVP Campaign map. Any dual in the main game isn't going to have a magical aura of safety, if that's part of your question.
Id assume more of a penalty to disrupting a duel than free shield for being part of one. Very dishonorable to get in the way. And i havent figured out how to get on the founders server. And yes i am a founder
