So i have been playing nothing but orks and what not and always hear that the bolter needs to be buffed... So i decided to play LSM made a new character (boltfinger) took the preset tactical and well it dosnt feel under powered at all i mean i didnt do amazing hell no but i still out shot quite a few people and i actually like it, so i quickly did the same for CSM and eldar etc...... I still prefer the shoota (rodeo version or modded dead shiny) but the bolter just feels really good i dunno if its just personal preference or not but i really do like the feel of it Also this post isnt to start a fight or a OMG YOUR SO OP STOP WHINING WAHH WAHH no its a post just to get other peoples opinions other then someone after the game swearing alot calling everyone op etc.... (LoL players as i like to call them)
The bolter isn't bad if you're a great shot but if you're going for bodyshots, you will never win the TTK race which is shit. You have to be more accurate with the bolter than other factions weapons. But no. I love the bolter too. Nothing like spitting high velocity anti-tank shells from an infantry weapon.
Big E sayz diz: IT DOESN'T MATTER WAT U LIKE! Bolter was nice only on pre-alfa. Felt more like bolta! And last time Big E played bolter it felt like victim o balance, but not da real SM-CSM whack-dealer! DAMN!
I personally enjoy using the boltgun and the heavy bolter, despite both weapons being objectively worse than the faction counterparts (Not the CSM, they are literally identical at that point. Which makes no sense, seriously? Their weapons are more rundown, but chaos corrupted, they should have at least slightly different stats. Maybe less accuracy and damage but a higher fire rate, oh wait, that only accentuates the problem....). They *feel* really good, they just cannot perform as well as their faction counterparts at the locations where it matters. Yes, the Boltgun and Heavy Bolter do have significant range advantages over the other factions, this much is true by their accuracy alone (Though they do have dropoff, which makes literally zero sense since they are self-propelled explosive projectiles that actually get faster as they travel. Seriously, who ever heard of an RPG doing less damage to a helicopter because it happened to be a meter further out than the user thought it was?). But this is, in the end, wholly irrelevant to their effectiveness at winning the game seeing as nearly every capture point is a close quarters area where the range advantage of the Boltgun or Heavy Bolter is completely unusable against their counterparts, at those distances the decreased accuracy of their counterparts is irrelevant, meaning that their significantly higher raw DPS wins them the damage race nearly every time. Our only usable tactic is to ADAD strafe and hope the other guy sucks at fire control.
The bolt itself will run out of propellant. Then you just have inertia to carry it where you want it, like any other projectile. The bolt relies on its penetration to carry its charge into the target and detonate. Otherwise it would just explode on contact basically. Yes, I am relating this to todays technology. I suppose it could be some sort of magical fuel that never runs out. But considering everything else in the 40k universe operates off analogues we use today, I doubt it. Ohh, and the RPG will do no damage if its out of range and doesn't make it to its target. Edit: And I also like the bolter. Always get stacks of kills with it. Plasma gun seems much harder to use for me.
The reason no one likes the standard bolter is because of the plasma gun's existence outclassing it That and the reason i personally don't use it is because i like a longer ranged playstyle and for some stupid reason the bolter has damage drop off
I like it, its actually usable compared to the ASC and is capable of getting kills while being cheap and doesn't burn over the entire clip to get kills while having a strong mid range presence , still prefer some melta on my guy though.
The Bolter is good if your enemy does not fire back. If he does, however, prepare for a messy death in ~66% of all cases. It is pretty accurate, but the DPS is not enough to win TTK races, as Proteus said before. I like the weapon, though.
I love it, honestly. I play a bolter apo 90% of the time. I use the horizontal stabilizer, grip that increases accuracy while moving, and the box magazine for mods. As long as I'm moving, using cover, and not trying to have a standoff, I do pretty darn well with it. It's certainly not perfect for all situations, but I think it's a great all-around "tactical" weapon. Though maybe I've just adjusted well to it. There are plenty of other weapons I am just terrible with...
