Though I like the big shoota I agree that it fills almost exactly the same role as the normal shoota which is kinda redundant. An option to fire it perhaps less rapidly but more accurately at range wouldn't go amiss. I don't understand the point of scopes for the shoota either, they fulfil a close to medium range battlefield role. Surely big shootas should have the option for scopes that we could actually use. I'm terms of miniatures I put scopes on quite a few of my models because I like the idea of an Ork trying to aim and completely missing everything or just not bothering to use something that could massively increase his accuracy.
Dont overlook that suppress. I have gotten a number of squads through a HB kill zone via firing wildly in his general direction just to fuck up his shots.
Oh aye, it's not useless at range, I just don't think it distinguishes itself well enough from the shoota in terms of damage and main kill range. It is certainly a greater support weapon and I use it such.
Yeah about a toss up. I currently use a big shoota just for fun but I think I'm gonna go back to my delux modded dead shiny shoota pretty soon. Shoota just has better dmg at range vs big shoota which hurts the big shootas chances in my book. Not to mention the terrible ammo problems, reload speed, and turn while firing that gets you killed if someone rolls behind you.
Hells yea, I totally forgot about all these! The reload speed is particularly crippling in comparison to say, the Rodeo Shoota.
Just gotta say if you really really hate swooping hawks then the big shoota is for you otherwise a fully modded basic or DS shoota is just better.
