Except in the Tabletop Storm Bolters are more of a middle ground between Ork normal and big Shootas. Ork Shootas are Range 18, Strength 5, Armor Pen 6, Assault 2. Storm Bolters are Range 24, Strength 4, Armor Pen 5, Assault 2. Big Shootas are Range 36, Strength 5, Armor Pen 5, Assault 3 So based on the stat lines the Big Shoota should have better range, fire rate, and pen. And then the Loota Deffguns are the ACTUAL heavy weapons at Range 48, Strength 7, Armor Pen 4, Heavy D3 So a Big Shoota boy really should be a more mobile, less powerful Loota.
I only got one mod for my big shoota, but compared to the other shootas the big shoota hits so much harder due to more penetration. Land a few good shots to the head on people and they go down pretty quick.
I was giving up hope on the weapons being finished , I'm nearly to the end of the 12000 boxes with no mods in sight are they in the higher tier boxes?
Well, you don't really do see ork sniper miniatures, now do you? And plus, orks are made for CQB and close to medium battles, so the big shoota is a upgraded version of the shoota, therefore it still has the same relevant combat range as it's smaller brother. And the scope thing makes me yell at gork and mork to no end. PS(EDIT): I got the heavy barrel from the 12k boxes.
I mean, Ork boyz kits come with a scope attachment, I'm just pretty sure I might be the only one that uses it. I feel like the Blood Axes most of all would definitely field snipers among their ranks. And to be perfecty honest I would use the sight mods infinitely more on the Big Shoota than the normal Shoota. Especially if they gave the Big Shoota the burst fire mode it initially had. Also I just really like modeling my own Big Shoota Kommandos as Orky snipers. (Yes the left one is cheating a bit but the right is entirely Ork bits!)
I use vertical recoil barrel rather than heavy barrel and accuracy grip, less hassle bursting than with heavy barrel and as I tend to use it as a close range weapon anyways (my play style is very close and personal ) the slight penalty for accuracy from barrel is not really doing anything. I like big shoota, imo it's currently way better than normal modded shoota.
