So I recently started using a Big Shoota for giggles taking a break from the Klaw last night. I finally have mods for it so I was like hell, why not. And you know what? It' not bad with the compensator(heavy barrel?) and the grip with accuracy on the move. It actually works quite well. The kicker? It only works well in the same range that the Shoota works(fairly comparable honestly). This is where it's still failing. It's meant to be the longer ranged Shoota, yet only still really works at med/close range like our Shoota. Also something that bugs me, why does the Shoota get scopes but the Big Shoota, again the "long range" version, has no scopes? Heh.
I made my veteran a shoota nob that uses a modded big shoota gold gob and heaviest armor. Turns out a 160 toughness nob with a big shoota is amazing against eldar. I can survive 2 to 3 banshee power attacks it seems.
Which is great, but ultimately fails at achieving what the Big Shoota is intended for. It's bloom/recoil is entirely unacceptable for a weapon intended to be a long range variant of the Shoota. I almost think it needs to have a Brace option. Not nearly as needle point accurate as HB/SC but better than it is now even when aimed. It's damage wouldn't be game breaking even if it was fairly accurate, it's like what..18-19 damage at like 40-100M out? Would make it unique at least that we have a Bracing non Heavy weapon gun. Shoota's can't take anything that isn't infantry killing(gun wise) anyway, not treading on tactical toes with their ability to take guns for damn near any target. Giving it a Brace option would also allow us to both fix the long range component of this gun without it outshining the Shoota in close range as the only other option would be to improve the Big Shoota accuracy period(which would be bad and totally nullify any reason for normal Shoota).
I think it does have a psuedo brace option actually. Shots definitly feel more accurate from a railing.
Who cares about bloom when you're spewing so much dakka down range that you'd make 1000 Japanese men at a bukkake convention blush.
I do when none of it hits and none of it triggers suppression and I'm getting eagle eyed shot in my fat green head by the bolter with "medium" range accuracy.
I finally know what is wrong with the big shoota, and is one little thing: The range. Why we only have 8 meters range when big shoota turns slower and should be a long range weapon that should be supported by some boyz with choppas or normal shootas? Like really, rodeo shoota is the way to go if you are in close combat and ded shiny shoota for the long range engages. Buff the range to 15m or even better to 20m!
Then you're not shooting enough dakka. Find a mekboy and paint'er black. Are you using the dead shiny one? because if you're not you're doing it wrong.
Also I find that big shoota work ok at range with the recoilreducer instead of the accuracy booster. I run textured grip for bloom reduction and the muzzle break and shoot swooping hawks and such down all the time.
Big shoota isn't really for long range. It's our storm bolter. At range, the only benefit is the suppression, which helps. If you want long range firepower, use the loota, with ace dakka.
