  1. Greetings brothers, sisters and ugly Xenos!

My guess is that most people on this forum also read books.
Well at least a percentage of you people do.

So this message goes out to all of you.
HEY YOU! Do you like high fantasy? A story spanning thousands of centuries?
Do you like brutality and brutal honesty about wars? The horrors of magic?

HEY YOU! You that likes to read! Do you like a unique and deep magic system?
Do you like stories were mortals bring down gods. And gods fear things?

Do you want your mind blown?

YES YOU DO I JUST KNOW IT.

Do yourself a favor and get the first in the Malazan tales of the fallen series.
It is written by Steven Erikson. And this is by far my favorite books in the whole universe. ( On par with my 4oK lore addiction )
The book is called Gardens of the moon.

It is the first in a roller coaster ride through ten books.
Do yourself a favor .. and embrace it!
  2. Band of Brothers is the best book I've read.

It's heavy, the author interviewed a bunch of vetrans and wrote the book from a on the feild perspective, so it reads like a fiction novel but it's all real with minimal distortion thru creative leeway.

  3. Aye! I have read those as well.
I have been violently ill for about three years. So a lot of time to read hahaha
  4. Reading the Tao Te Ching changed the way I approach life. It continually shuts down my ego, which is good. I'd definitely say it's one of the best books ever. As for fantasy/sci-fi, Dune blew my mind and still does. It's the only Sci-fi universe comparable to 40k imo. I couldn't put Dune down. It's very similar to 40k in the way it is in the far, far distant and dark future - very grimdark - and has a medieval/retrogressive element to it, and is steeped in religion/spirituality (I wish there was an actual Orange Catholic Bible!). I certainly think it's the greatest sci-fi book ever.

  5. Serg Serg First Blood!

My best book or books are the books from Discworld written by Terry Pratchet. R.I.P. :(

  6. The Karen Traviss Republic Commando series is exceptionally well written. Shame LucasWhatever screwed with the continuity to the point the author had to leave the series unfinished.

Always difficult to say just one.

So I will just say the obvious one, LotR, and another probably well known, ASoIaF (damn it takes longer for my brain to type that than LotR) by GRRM.

Dune is good. Also Chronicles of Narnia.

I also enjoy detective novels so I guess I should also mention Agatha Christie. I haven't really thought about which of her books is the best.

I will stop while I am ahead and I haven't lost too much of my time listing things (how many best books can there be? Never enough but still).
  8. There are quite a few Star Trek novels that are good as well. The Destiny trilogy springs to mind.
  9. I have read most of the books you all mentioned!
And while they all are great. To me nothing can come close to the books of Steven Erikson.

Here are two quotes from the books!

The more civilized a nation, the more conformed its population, until that civilization's last age arrives, when multiplicity wages war with conformity. The former grows ever wilder, ever more dysfunctional in its extremities; whilst the latter seeks to increase its measure of control, until such efforts acquire

Evil is nothing but a word, an objectification where no objectification is necessary. Cast aside this notion of some external agency as the source of inconceivable inhumanity – the sad truth is our possession of an innate proclivity towards indifference, towards deliberate denial of mercy, towards disengaging all that is moral within us. But if that is too dire, let’s call it evil. And paint it with fire and venom
