This thread is only for speculations and is not about insulting devs for their progress on elites and heroes, including types of characters which will be available in these classes. Would you want to see the Wrath God's Avatar on the battlefield? In any novel concerning Eldar, in more-less crucial battles when formidable foes need to be extinguished the Avatar always appears, often turning a battle in favour of Eldar and I consider him to be one of the Eldar unique hallmarks in Warhammer 40k. I'd be delighted to stride along side his embodiment in this game, just imagine how cool it would be. Now to what this character might be. I think it's a heroe or elite unit which should be available at a very hight cost - since we dont know yet (personally I, at least) at which cost heroes and elites will be available for purchasing (virtual or real currency), this question is of a second importance, but perhaps his price in any form should be very high. A person who plays for the Avatar can spawn only once on the battlefield (I thought about really long time gaps before resurrection since the Avatar cant truly die, but perhaps it would be irritating for a player) and hence Eldar can call for him only once during a battle. A person who plays for the Avatar is sacrificed as a young king and hence, after his death as the Avatar, he cant resurrect afterwards even as an ordinary player. Perhaps this is a bit tough - you fail once and you cant spawn during a current match anymore - but to my mind it can be compensated by Khaine's extreme resilence and huge amount of currency required to use him, thus preventing unexperienced players to play for this character. The Avatar's presence increases Aspect Warrior's characteristics - damage done, stamina restoration, endurance in whole - and Eldar players gain increased amount of experience for each capturing and kill. He is extremely tough and strong, can heal himself like Eldar transport when not being under attack The only way to put him down is through ranged combats since he doesnt have any guns and can fight only in melee. He has several special abilites: 1) Leadership (passive, already mentioned above): constantly increases Aspect Warriors combat characteristics 2) Ignition (passive): inflicts temporary damage to ANY (friendly or hostile) unit (both vehicle and living character) who stays too close to him 3) Roar (active, slowly rechargable): significantly increases combat stats of nearby Eldar warriors AND reduces those of hostile players moving nearby 4) Hand of Ulthanesh (active, slowly rechargable): kills any target (vehicle or player) with one strike of his free hand Something like that. Again, these are just my speculations but I'm sure that Avatar's precense would only add more entourage to this game
The Avatar is too powerful for this game, so should not be added. Besides, if you read any marine books, you will see that killing an Avatar of Khaine is a right of passage for all good space marines with their "oh so special" abilities. aka "plot armour", aka "marines I win button", aka "Whaaa marines have to beat everything". So the Avatar would be a liability. Sorry, couldn't help myself!
Only if he comes with the archivement: the average hero: kill 1 avatar of khain On a more serious note I think this super legendary things could be a war council ability Using them once in a while and a random player gets choosen and he can choose to get this special class at next spawn or refuse And I think skill 2) and 4) are good But 1) is a bit over the top and I would rework 3) into a roar that stagger every enemy in range + suppress them after and while staggering 3 would come with a cooldown for sure Edit: haha joke ninjad
He might be a bit weaker in comparison with lore. In time we will have many super-tough units for all factions (wraithlords, Terminators etc.) and, if the game continues to evolve towards the true Warhammer game, with its entourage and key characters for each race, we will definitely need to have such characters. Besides, the more massive battles will be, the more diverse units will need to be represented on the battlefield so that players can actually immense into atmosphere as though they themselves wage bloody nightmarish wars of Warhammer universe.
I can understand your desire to include these types of units, but imho it just won't work. Too many people won't get the chance to play one. That means that there will be a lot of envy and rants about it. Not just for the Eldar who don't get to play it, but for all players as the other factions will need to have "super tough" heroes as well. I just think it is a bridge too far. Even Dreadnoughts and Wraith Lords will be very hard to balance, let alone Avatars, Greater Daemons etc.
Perhaps these sort of units could be added as a "final defence" type scenario during an important battle? So for example if a faction is invading one of the main Eldar strongholds they might have to face and destroy an NPC Avatar in the centre of the stronghold? Same thing could work for the other races - Ork Warboss, Captain or Greater Daemon etc
Very nice idea, btw. Didnt really think about it since I wanted to play for these characters by myself, but perhaps this is also plausible and acceptable. Some time ago I created a similar threads about Phoenix Lords - http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/eldar-heroe-elite-classes-speculations.54677/ - strange to me, but people showed no interest to play for the mightiest of Eldar warriors. But if it's possible to add such characters indeed as NPC, that would still be very cool
It could work just fine. EVE has super super elite ships that only a handful of people ever get to use, everyones cool with it.
Thanks dude, just figured it might be an interesting way to get them in the game in some context at least. Also I thought Maugan Ra was one of the Warlords that the Eldar players would use?
