And I mean more than just a scene of an Ork charging into battle. What does an Ork think while preparing for a battle? What does he think while racing or while doing a squig-eating contest? What does he think while pondering whether to challenge his Boss to a fight? Orks think radically different from humans: - Orks don't have art. They have decorations, but they don't make art to transport a hidden message to the viewer. - Orks don't have science or education. Apart from the Stormboy-camps, there is no regulated way of passing on knowledge. - Orks have nothing like a sexual identity and therefore no psychological imperatives concerning gender, mating or procreation. - Orks do not have the concept of smart&weak vs stupid&strong. A strong Ork is always a smart Ork, a stupid Ork is always a weak (or dead) Ork. Imagine going about your day... Now ignore all stories, all paintings, all commercials. Ignore the existence of schools and teachers. Ignore things like gender-roles, cosmetics, clothes that are tailored to make you look good... Treat weak people as having no value except as servants and slaves.
Well . . . too be honest, if BL would make an Ork Book (in an Ork's point of view) they'll have to make the entire text Orkish (You'git) or printed in Ork language to be more authentic to the fans of 40k, and there are a few who understand Orkish and it might not sell well because people won't understand it . . . . just my thinking
The language is not the problem. According to Angel Exterminatus, orkish actually sounds (in-universe) like barks, snarls and grunts. "Da languige of da Orkz" seems to me like an orkified version of english/Low-Gothic. But an annotated version... a well-written novel that really puts you into the mind of an alien life-form... For example, there is the fantasy-novel "The Goblin Corps" http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9732091-the-goblin-corps It's essentially "Lord of the Rings", if the Fellowship of the Ring consisted of brutal, back-stabbing, man-eating monsters. They are truly evil, yet endearing.
I'd be able to stomache an ork book more than another bolter porn anyday. Seriously current writing trends are driving me away from reading the books. Edit: plus doesn't fantasy already write about orks from their perspective?
Yes, but the short-story in Fear the Xenos is about a Waaaghboss planning a battle and a Warboss on a recon-mission. And the short-stories from EC are about Freebooterz during a space-battle and Orkz battling each other on a plain. I want to know what an Ork thinks/does when he's NOT busy chopping and shooting up enemies.
I think the best you're going to get is the scattered bits of ork kultur. For example, ork camps basically become rambling towns given time, with scrap metal buildings and individual gangs controlling areas led by nobz or mekboyz. They have bars and eateries. They have an economy. Grots sell food from mobile carts or trays, alongside booze. Fights are common but not always to the death. They have squig fighting arenas where they have squigs and snotlings fight it out for amusement while making bets.
Not at all. Orks aren't a hive mind. They have personalities and behavious that varies based on location, army, past experience, and personal preferences just like people. But instead of everyshade of the rainbow they are more of a 50 shades of green kinda deal. Just because some people can't get into or understand ork kulture doesn't mean there aren't fans that do. Btw I would also rather read a book about nids from a hive mind perspecgive then another crappy SM book. Good example of a book for orks was Sanctus reach. There is a story in it that follows a big mek in the red waaaaggghhhh. Again fantasy has interesting ork heros does it not. That grimgore ironhide seems pretty damn awesome.
