When asked about eldar melee Brent mentioned that orks basic units are going to use knuckles. A ork without his choppa is like a Space marine without xenophobia. just sayin.
knuckle is the ork version of the combat knife ... not the sword, ork version of sword/axe would be choppa
Nah I keep hoping they will do it right and make orks the only faction that doesnt have to swap to a secondary melee weapon. Just hit them with your gun. An ork can cave someone skull in with the butt of his slugga easily.
Hmm. I now have a life goal to engage a space marine using a power fist with my bare hands. And win. Orks Over All! Green iz Best!
I've managed to kill Assaults by hitting them with the blunt side of my Heavy Bolter. Anything is possible with enough WAAAGH!
I was just pointing this out as a inside joke though my friend seems to have just ignored the thread all together. Me and him talk about the Orks a bit and he argues that all the boys have a choppa even shootas though their choppas are kinda small vs a slugga boy. Choppas range from the size of a basic butcher knife to the size of a great sword and can be made from a range of mats from a piece of jagged scrap metal to some more refined teeth chain blades. Anyway on a serious note on the subject I like the knuckles idea but I would also like to see a smaller choppa just to have that option available.
Well, they say they're working to make the Slugga the primary weapon of the Orks, and the official class list doesn't include a ground assault equivalent at the moment (though it doesn't include the ground assault either) so maybe the choppa is an option for basic boyz who want a to dedicate more points to melee. It could be if we drop consumables or upgrade our choppa deploy cost we can take both a choppa and a shoota. Although considering Orks are only on paper at the moment we may as well assume they'll have a tapdancing animation and execute foes by playing DDR on them.
I quite like the idea that Orkz don't need a weapon to match the attack power of a Space Marine's or Eldar's Knife, being an 8-Foot tall green gorilla full of rage has its perks afterall. Though it does present some odd images and concerns of Orkz being able to parry a chainsword swing with their forearm. We're a race that was engineered to literally fight, it's epic that this would be presented through gameplay. But I'd also support Orkz using the butt of their guns to similar effect. Orkz also don't have a vast array of named weapons like Eldar or Space Marines do, power swords, power axes, dire swords, etc. Orkz have the good Ol' Choppa and 'Uge 'Hamma. Granted, an Ork Choppa is so general a term, it can apply to the knife-sized basic Choppa that many Sluggaz use, or the axe sized Choppa, supposedly even our non-powered 'Uge Hamma'z will be able to stand up to a Thunder Hammer in terms of force. I also wouldn't be surprised if we had options for larger sword-choppaz, or Cutlass Choppaz (FREEBOOTERZ START WAAAGHIN'!) Ork ranged weapons are a little more diverse in names and function, but I'm eager in any case to see where all this goes, I imagine the rest of us are as well. So let's just sit on the edge of our seats for the next two months while they pump Orkz out. Our time will come soon, once Da Orkz are released, we'll have access for the first time on any shooter game to the Greenskin Horde. Even with our small but highly organized hordes, we'll make every other faction cry over how OP Orkz are with our slapped-together-somehow-functional weapons and utter disregard for the grim dark nature of the Warhammer 40k Universe. Also, an execution of an Ork beating someone to death with his bare hands... Would be my new favorite execution.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Choppa#Knives_and_Knuckles He's talking about this. This is what shoota boys use in close combat.
