Right now, I trust the Devs to make Sidegrades not P2W. But most people don't inform themselfes so much or totally validly, don't trust the general Idea of Sidegrades that are only buyable in a Cashshop. I think a big point here is that being able to get everything ingame is a big Savetynet. Sure, its good that BE doesn't want Sidegrades to be OP, but it might still happen. Miguel said it himselfs: There will be a Meta. And different equipment will change its effectivness depending on the Meta. There will always be a FotM (Favorite of the Month). And that FotM might be a "Cashshop" only Item. Sure it will be nerfed. 2 Weeks later. And that is a problem. If you can get everything ingame, it might practically still be a problem, because you might need much time to farm that Item, but at the very least it will put everyones mind at ease. Got killed by the FotM Weapon? Well, I could use it myself aswell, because I can get everything ingame. Got killed by a Weapon that is Cashshop only? (No matter how bad/good it is). You would get very annoyed/angry. Aslong as I KNOW, I COULD do the same thing as my enemy, the mind is at ease, and I atleast don't rage. For me this difference shows in LoL vs Dota. If I play LoL, and I get totally owned by Lucian, the next game I will try to play Lucian. And then I get totally rekt. Actually, I am probably bad with Lucian. But in my mind, I think: He is only better because he has the right runes for that Champion (I know that runes are ingamecurrency only). And then I get frustrated. If I play Dota, and I get owned by Pudge, the next game I might play Pudge. And if I get totally rekt then, I KNOW its because I played bad. And I will accept it, and try to get better with Pudge. The difference is probalby not the actual gameplay (even though that is also annoying), but the little nagging feeling, that I can't do anything. Its out of my control. I din't lose because I played bad, I lost because he had an inherent advantage. And even if only imagined, it is the worst feeling. (I do compare Runes with Cashshop only Items, because for me both are in the same distant future that I don't want to achieve. In a Cashshop that would be Spending Money, with runes it is supporting a stupid system). Actually, maybe I just now did make a point, that there should be no Grind, instead of no Cashshop only. Hmm. But I think that nagging feeling is even worse if something is only gettable through Cash. To come back to my main Point. Balance WILL be shifting, and being able to get everything ingame is a Savetynet. Actually you still might need to grind too much, but in the End everyone can Relax, and know that they have the option to deal with problems trough their Skill. From a marketing Standpoint alone, if you don't want to milk Sidegrades and make them P2W, don't make them in the first place. I don't think the gain is worth the players you lose because they fear P2W.
no matter how you do it there is no way to be fair for everyone the devs are going to have to be unfair to someone one way or another that being said wile i dont like buying any items other than cosmetics i still see your point for those who cant spend as much time as me
If you want to say something, just say it. Edit: Or for example you could just tell me: Hey, Savetynet is written: "safety net". Then I would say: "Oh, thank you. Learned something new today, because english isn't my native tounge, but I love to improve my english skills." And then we would have a much nicer atmosphere all around. Then I am very sorry for you, you seem truly limited.
I agree with the OP. Even if they're trying to balance everything perfectly (an impossible task) making everything earnable in game is indeed a good safety net to ensure balance and fairness in all things.
