A Common Idea From Ps2

In one of the earlier videos of this games developement it was mentioned there would be an arena type game mode as well as massive war platform. I think that is a great idea and am curious if it is still in the works. The reason being a lot of people often say in planetside that while they really enjoy the massive scale battles, a lot of them seem to really appreciate smaller engagement and skirmishes more. The reason behind this is a small group of good players or even one really good player can make a huge difference in smaller engagements in comparison to being at one of those massive battles where if theres no real cordination one cannot really gain any ground. So I was just wondering about the arena or possibly any other game modes that might be of a smaller scale in development.

The only smaller engagements that i can think about are just the PvE dungeons and an arena where orks would decide for leadership (still to be confirmed though).
However, i believe you are talking about the upcoming first module.
That would be a sort of arena indeed, but just for giving a hint on how will be bigger battles on bigger scale In the final product, plus to start balancing the current revealed factions.

Well I like the idea of arena and such, but I know not having it would never deter me from this game. It was just an early vid I saw when I first heard about this game, a small number of space marine and chaos killing each other in an arena setting, but at that time I am sure everything was in speculation. Thanks for feedback.
  4. There have never been plans for an arena mode, but the alpha testing the developers are working on have been based on arena-style maps - if you look at the latest twitch, you'll see that one of the things they've created to test capture and control gameplay mechanics is like an assault scenario from the likes of Unreal Tournament

Some people would be keen to see some form of arena mode added on - potentially, this could be done, but there are no plans to do so for launch.

Equally, there are some people who spit blood and fury at the idea of any game content which isn't in the open world and subject to the imbalances of open PvP. ;)

Although there will be no arena type mode in the actual game, we really haven't seen much about how faction warfare will work. If players can do things behind enemy lines, I would really expect to see some serious smaller scale engagements that matter.

Take if you will the Devs go in the direction of modular bases. Bases that cannot be captured single handedly because players will need to not only fight their way through the defenses, but also capture 3 different points simultaneously. So a squad or even two squads will have trouble capturing a whole base to themselves, but because they are modular and connected to the Economy, it would be worth a skirmish to fight over the various parts of the base that would be otherwise vulnerable to attack.

I really hope that there are no arena/instanced PvP maps with ladder rankings, that will kill the open world and the whole point of playing the game. There are enough instanced arena based PvP games available.

Yeah but a training cage with another player ( 1v1 ) is in the lore and would be fun with your chapter brothers.

I was on that zergfest Connery since Beta, A year later I moved to Briggs (less populated) and it was a much better fight. Ran with JUGA over at Briggs and it was the best PS2 experience I ever had.

So I can relate to what you're saying OP. Just that it doesn't run alongside the grand vision that the devs have overall. So perhaps for those who enjoy smaller engagements, join a less populated server?

After Briggs, I never went back to Connery.

    It's a single server game.
