"Dah, be kind to the Elders. They speak from experience. Surviving a war or two does not make you a god, Mark." The Master of Ordinance stopped to pull of his Peaked cap. It was just a hat and didnt even provide a miniscule amount of protection compared to a Helmet.

"Unlike eithier of you, I never really plan on living through these battle. And most of the Platoon would agree!" Artyom said before laughing and moving up ahead of the the two. He need to keep up front just in case further support is needed. He doubted he would be able to do much in a mine, but you never know.

The senior laughed amused. "Just keep your head down when the bullets start flying! Don't want a shrapnel kill one of the platoon leads lads!" He grinned and waved a hand at Artyoms reaction. Apparently he truly didn't care too much about being called old, in fact it could be seen as quite a compliment, given that the young and untalented die almost immediately on the battlefield.

"The Orks are not too far into this sector yet, but they will come once they know a fight is to be fought here." Oskar Hochmann said and cracked his knuckles before grabbing his Bolt Pistol in the left hand, given that the right was busy carrying a power fist.

    ~~ 35 seconds later ~~

The elevator touched ground and opened it's massive gate. Oskar casually walking into the tunnel. "Would there been Orks, we would have heard their yelling already!" He explained to his team and marched forward. Ruvornians didn't deal much with Orks, so he doesn't know how much his team knows. They might be excellent in killing Tau and Tyranids, but he was certain they would prove less of a pain in the rear than Tyranids.

The group marched under the lead of Oskar, the heavy weapons team being the rear, Oskar the lead and everyone else in between. The tunnels were wide enough so ten could march next to each other. A chimera could probably fit in here. The man walked to the closest cogitator-terminal and accessed it with a multi-key. After some time he just marched off further down the tunnel where it eventually split as an intersection into straight ahead (south), left (east), right (west). Oskar walked down towards south.

"In two hundred meters we reach the first excavation point, keep your eyes and ears open. Ludwigs, make a stance thirty meters to the south past the intersection to give us rear cover. The rest comes with me, the next batches of our platoon should come within the minute." He announced and moved on.

The tunnels were simple. Drilled with huge machines of the Adeptus Mechanicus, probably similar types to which had been used to drill up Mount Ruvorn during it's defense against the Tyranids. What troubled him was the silence though. One who had worked or stood guard at any mine of the Imperium knew that silence was a bad sign. Shifts usually arranged to work 24/7, keep the resources flowing, never stop working, drilling and digging. The only time no work would be done was truly an invasion. Yet where was the green tide? High Command had confirmed they would reach this far, perhaps a miscalculation or they found a fight elsewhere? The unknown made him just more eager to fight and get this over with, rather than break his head over the culture of Orks.

While the tunnels were tight, the other members could easily see that various tactical points could be made such as random rocks in the way, walls that were curbed inside that could be used as cover at the intersection, or setups like their heavy weapons team to keep the enemy on check. Tactical explosions could also help to cut off the enemy, but also would mean that a tunnel would be unusable anymore for the soldiers themselves. The huge blastdoor that cut the tunnel and elevator from one another also was obviously not just for safety so a vehicle doesn't fall in the shaft, but probably also to prevent accidents to damage the elevators or to cut off infiltrating enemies.

The Owls, with their trained eyes could already see down the road to south the silhouette of an outpost. Two towers, one on each side, a gate in the center and ramps to take position up the wall. But they also could see lack of movement. Also entrances into the walls could be seen - most likely worker quarters, kitchens and bathrooms.

It was not unusual to have outposts like this for around every 500 to 1000 meter, given that if tunnels would collapse, these stations would have to ensure survival for at least thirty days for all workers assigned to the station. Yet, given that they know this planet had been excavated for quite a time and the width of the tunnels here, this must be a much, much older station - Therefore rations would be non-existing and no workers assigned whatsoever. Why would the platoon be sent here, given that not a single worker or greenskin was here?

Viktoria moved up to Binalt and nudged him slightly with her elbow.
"Are you not seeing what I'm not seeing, Tech? Makes me think about that saying. 'A distinct lack of anything is usually an indication of something'. What do you think?"

-Techero Binalt,Sharpshooter of 66th Ruvornian Regiment.

He always had the goosebumps on the missions that he either got injured or had low number of headshots.And...he had them now. That or its the drawback from the qash weed. While moving down the tunnels,Techero shifted in his posture,as if shifting his shoulder to better accommodate the leather belt that was strapped to his Sniper Rifle.

At first it didnt seem Angela will see some action, but few tactical positions might change that, even tho if it is,at best, medium range.Techero wont be able to utilize his full skill on this terrain...
Suddenly he was nudged from his reverie by a Guardsman next to him.Better to say...Guardswoman...
Turning his helmet, his eyes hidden behind a glareshield,Binalt nodded.

"I agree.Tho it might be that Mechanicum just retreated from the area. You know, how they are like, neglectful and all toward the stuff they dont use.That...and general evacuation..."
With a glance of his sharp eye,Techero spotted a Sniper rifle on Viktoria`s shoulder.Ah...Owl 1.Lets see what you have.

    OOC:Going off for a few hours. :/
Addendum: Didnt see the yesterday post about the starter of the RP!Soz!

"Silent In here Odd. Think the orks wen't further down into the tunnels or are possibly setting up a ambush?" Martin asked as he kept his eyes out and his las rifle in his hands. His eyes scanned the silhouettes of the towers Each positions looks like it might be good for cover.

the commissar watched as the others moved foward and then moved towards the commander "sir what did comand say we were evacuating" but she spoke only load enough to be heard only by the commander but did not wait for a reply as she moved foward towards the men and watched them then spoke "everyone be on the lookout in case the enemy are hiding"

Mark stayed close to the shadows, aiming his bolter in front of him as he slowly advanced. He kept more focus on his immediate surroundings than really looking far down the tunnel. Simply - he was there in Mount Ruvorn when the bugs came, fighting side by side with Major Farrenheim as the hell spread all around them and interestingly, this situation he was currently in looked awfully like that one in Jandra. Therefore, he kept his mouth shut and scanned the rocks for any smaller holes from which yellow alien eyes, filled with rage, might be watching.

OOC: Feel free to explore the area and describe the outpost as you like. You will find nothing worth of grabbing. Weapons are empty or broken. Food rotten. No journals or other items of importance, not even dog tags or so. You will figure out the station has been abandoned for months, if not even years. If anyone checks the cogitators you learn that the gates were closed due to the automatic protocol that had been given across the planet which was a shutdown command, triggered 4 hours after evacuation orders had been given. Nothing else will happen until the investigation is completed (will do a post about it if you don't do anything on monday) short after that reinforcements of the rest of the platoon arrive.

Techero shrugged, since Viktoria didnt had anything to add to their abruptly ended exchange. He was itching...and it wasnt the qash-weed from his hookah,he didnt hit the thing since they landed on this cursed rock.Tau...he can take care of them when order was given...but Orks? When they start acting all cunning and all, then one can know that trouble be brewin`.

Specialist Binalt didnt like it.He did not like it at all.He was always nervous around a Commisar, which didnt help the matter. He never knew how to act around one and Infantry Primer didnt help. When on the topic of the Infantry Primer, that piece of garbage dosent help find,Ork headgear classification. The garbage was useless,no wonder some of the boys use it as latrine....aid.

With a switch,he pulled up the glare-shield from his eyes, seeing as he didnt need it.The road down south led to an outpost, and that meant higher ground.Higher ground also meant 'play time!'.He just couldnt wait for the rest of the platoon...he needed some Orks!He never saw any of the poor gits...but he wanted to shoot something!

"Sir Oskar, sir!"curtly spoke Binalt, without walking out of the formation.
"Permission to scout the area, sir!?" he inquired, considering how he could allow some freedom to himself considering how he is part of a command squad.Only the best get in the squad, and Techero was one of the best sharpshooters in the 1st platoon.Over thirty confirmed Tau eliminations.Of course,Ruvornian regiments had a hard-on for Tyranids especially, but Techero was only a little nipper back then.Lucky Tyranids...

"Affirmative." He simply replied to the Owl, waiting to let them go ahead. The Vox-Caster got news that reinforcements are coming. The words were crackled and such, but they were still coming through. Thank the God-Emperor they had more than just their regular Vox-Boxes.

~~ Couple of minutes later ~~

The two Owls who scouted the area found nothing except confirmation that the outpost was evacuated even before the Ork assault. Everything that was useful had been taken along to the next outpost or elsewhere. Personal files and logs were also taken away, leaving unmaintained cogitators behind. The only thing still in good shape was the main logic machine next to the gate, given that it was the gate control.

The Owls upon checking it's log noticed that the gate was not manually but automatically closed after an evacuation order had been issued among the entire network.

"Alright, let's make camp for today, Ork movement is nearby and we have to be ready. We are the first and last defense on this end. If we falter, the Orks can get onto the surface. That option is unacceptable, UNDERSTOOD?!" Hochmann roared over-passionate before heading towards the wall to take position in the center, on top of the gate.

    ~~ Five minutes later ~~

The rest of the platoon marched in unison - led by the Command Squads 2nd Commissar who was in charge of organizing the troops and ensuring enough supplies were brought down. Squad #9 & #10 started to turn the living quarters and storage room into supply rooms for food, water and ammunition accordingly and well-fashioned. The rest of the Command squad along with Squad #3 and #4 would take position on the wall, with 2 heavy weapon teams in each tower. Squad #5 & #6 were further down the tunnel, ensuring if other sides would fall that the flanks would remain intact. Squads #7, 8 and 9 would then be split as support troops. #7 closer to the entrance. #8 in between of tunnels and gate, #9 near the gate. Squad #10 served as support of supplies, providing them where needed.

And almost as if the Orks wanted their enemy to be prepared... The beating of drums could be heard from down the tunnel. An even rhythm.

    Beat. Beat. Beat-Beat-Beat.
    Beat. Beat. Beat-Beat-Beat.
    Beat. Beat. Beat-Beat-Beat.
    "WAAAAAGGGHHHHH!"

    Beat. Beat. Beat-Beat-Beat.
    Beat. Beat. Beat-Beat-Beat.
    Beat. Beat. Beat-Beat-Beat.
    "WAAAAAGGGHHHHH!"

Each drum beat and roar announced the Orks to come closer, their steps not in sync, despite the war drums guiding them. The Guardsmen primed their weapons. There was a turn short before the gate, meaning that until they would get into sight would actually mean they were already quite close. They did not even require any form of light, as no beam or torch could be seen around the corner yet, though the light had been turned off - in hope to confuse the Orks. Alas, their physiology was especially well-made for combat in the dark.

Hochmann at least knew it and that is why he had a little trick prepared for the Orks. "Alright lads! They are eager to die, so let us not disappoint them!" He already aimed at the tunnel entrance with his Bolt Pistol, the right of his was held high with the Power Fist attached. Clearly he wanted the Orks to know who is in charge here.

There was an estimate of 30-90 seconds until the enemy would be in firing range, leaving room for last words before the combat.
