No, I'm not the "Lord-Inquisitor guy that got banned from the forums". I joined today. Thanks for welcoming me.
Okay here's my rebuttal. Torsion Bar Suspension takes up less room than spring, and considering the side armour covers the wheels you wouldn't see it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsion_bar_suspension Also, the Chimera chassis is based off of tanks like the WWII Matilda II, which had coil spring suspension. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matilda_II You just have up size that side to what a Chimera's would be in Real-World scale. The only IG who carries a Heavy Bolter is Sgt. Harker, all the other need a team to carry it and its ammo. http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Imperial-Guard-Gunnery-Sergeant-Harker They also used to move them with these (bottom of page): http://www.solegends.com/citcat1995-6/cat19956p018-00.htm You wouldn't normally have a modern soldier walking around on his own carrying a M2 .50 Cal. Browning in combat. Eldar have Dark Reapers to carry their current infantry Heavy Weapon (they used to be able to carry Shuriken Cannons, etc.). http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Eldar-Dark-Reapers Modern SM Tactical Squad. http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Space-Marine-Tactical-Squad Plus, you don't want to overdo the pouches or you could end up looking like these guys: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Hor...onnaisance_Squad/LEGION_MKIV_RECON_SQUAD.html As for the Blacksword missile, I meant the shell of the missile was physically bigger but we don't know how long it is, or what else is carried within it. At least I answered most of the original questions.
I agree 100% with psycho i think, orks are being completely underrated within the whole scheme of thing regarding RT items we have been shown so far. Considering all we get is looted 'umie armour and boltgun and some type of oversized tooth for the melee weapon and our free gifts dont say much either in comparison to the other factions.THAT AINT AT ALL ORKY i just hoper orkz get a bit more recognition in future updates otherwise i might just have to roll with a sm toon.:/
I don't see why this one is a problem. Marines don't need to look down the sights to fire accurately. Weapons are synced up to their power armor's auto-senses. Superhuman abilities along with decades of daily weapons training also helps. "His helmet HUD powered up, its ocular targeting syncing with his bolter sights." - Blood Gorgons, Pg. 115 "Range vectors and an aiming reticule appeared on his visor, designating the point his shell would impact. He waited until the dot flashed red and pulled the trigger." - Nightbringer, pg. 456
B-b-but... I LIKE those miniatures and pouches... I think it's mostly the cloaks. That recon force looks awesome.
I said A FEW and you can only give a couple examples. Okay, there are only a COUPLE of examples now. Next time, read first I think you need to look at the chimera and leman russ again. The road wheels are NOT on torsion bar or spring suspension. They're pined directly between the armor plate and frame. You can clearly see it on the model. Tell me how much swing there is in this track: Even if there was torsion bar, the track would retreat into the armor plate and the tank would be riding on its armor. There is no way your argument holds up. It doesn't even have suspension. IG can pick up their weapons and move them. Eldar can't. Guardians wear special armor at the expensive of their mobility in order to carry a missile launcher. Yeah, a missile launcher. Even Dark Eldar can walk around holding their heavy weapons. We don't carry around M2's? How do you think this got out here? Do you think they just airdrop it and use it in place? No. Someone had to carry it. And that is a huge distraction. Heavy bolters and scatter lasers are not M2's. They're closer to M240's. Notice that we stopped making wheeled AT guns after WW2? Space marines haven't had pouches for ages. Some of that is just now starting to trickle in through forgeworld. The only pouches they did come with don't fit the model very well. Probably due to the scale, but not many people use them for this reason. How exactly are you throwing grenades or reaching into a mag pouch when your chained to your weapon? I have a challenge for you - chain an M16 to one wrist and an M9 to the other with a 2 foot chain and try throwing grenades and reloading. I think you'll understand at that point how ridiculous it is.. I think it's just awesome how people will defend GW's obviously stylized and non-functional designs as the apex of modern military design
Yeah, the Leman Russ is basically a Mk IV with a turret on top. Strictly speaking it shouldn't have any sort of suspension, but the issues with the design usually get ignored because GW.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Power_Armour#.U-Gm9PldWn8 It's cited from the Space Marines Codex. According to sources I've seen the Heavy Bolter is spitting out around .998 caliber rounds (~25.4mm). Not to mention it's too big/heavy to be carried around by a normal IG. I think they use like 2 man crews or something usually. I'd liken it more to an M2 than a Bravo personally. I've seen many pictures with the HB set up on a tripod with an IG team and not on wheels. Not to mention the M2 is considerably less maneuverable (like the HB would be for the IG) than the Bravo which is why you don't see infantry carrying it around as much as the Bravo/SAW. Haha, not that this has anything to do with the topic.
The IG vehicle designs are awful, that's hard to deny, and are mostly explained in the lore by not being purpose built/designs military vehicles. The Leman Russ has many flaws besides its suspension, though- they're a worse tank design than the modern equivalent, and possibly worse than even their WW2 equivalent. And they're still the best of a bad bunch when it comes to IG vehicles. Lol. Thankfully it's not always about realism, however. Not in the 40k universe, at least.
