I tend to think of the 40k eldar as a tolkien elves (in spaaaaace) with a japanese inspired culture. I don't see much wrong with taking weapon designs from both inspirations. A straight blade (like the tanto knife) would be cool as a back-up melee weapon or as a larger sword for the S.Scorps.
So we can expect the following at launch then? I don't think its to much to ask for Ork players to request Ork specific equipment. Sure there will be other power claws, boss poles, 'Uge Hamma's later in the game but why not make some unique ones for founders? Why does the vast majority of Ork equipment have to be re-skinned space marine gear?
But not that much Ork gear is SM. If you look at the miniatures, their weapons are quite different, its only some of their vehicles and other conversions that have Sm or Imperial gear. I guess they had the Ork founders weapons as looted Sm guns, is because thats what Orks do, they loot, so it makes sense to have it like that.
Given that we haven't seen anything the orks will have (not including the RT stuff) they could easily have the most orky equipment saved for unlocking during the game. You can't just assume that because it isn't here and now (before the game has even hit alpha ffs) that it won't be in the game. That's like going, "holy crap the eldar only have a chain blade, are they just going to turn the howling banshees into flightless assault marines?" Cool your jets over what the orks are able to purchase from the RT, that isn't the entire arsenal (nor should it be) that the factions are going to have access to, they are neat cosmetic options for those with the interest to acquire.
Maybe they put these "Ork mehreenz" items at the founders store because they want these to be very rare. But even then i agree with your statement.
I'm aware that more are on the way. The point I am driving at is, take a look at the Space Marine arsenal for example. If I considered playing a space marine, everything that is currently available is not only very adeptus astartes appropriate, but also purchases that I wouldn't hesitate to make. They are very aesthetically appealing. Whereas: No thanks, if I wanted to be a space marine. I would play a space marine. Orks loot, we get it. It just would have been nice to have some ancient, revered orky equipment beforehand. I'm sure Orks have plenty of relics of their own that are not stolen.
Have you noticed that they have only shown SM/CSM in the livestreams, I imagine they are working on everything Astartes at the moment, which includes looted SM gear for the orks. Wait until they show off the orks in the livestream, if you don't have any truly orky stuff by then, go ahead and kick up a storm. Till then just chill, there is a very long while before the game is released.
Orks themselves don't. The people playing Orks do, and it seems they want Ork weapons instead of recycled SM assets.
