Then why would people use standard weapons at all, if the advanced Exarch versions are available? So, every FD will run with Fire Pike, why use a Fusion gun at all? All Scorpions would use a Claw, thus getting a shuriken catapult, power weapon and a chainsword, which is much better than standard equipment. Or imagine a squad of Reapers all with Tempest Launchers or Shuriken Cannons! You've got the idea.. It will be some other 40K, not the one we know.
The loadout system it's supposed to balance that, a fire pike it's an upgrade over a regular fusion gun, but it should cost more points to equip and let you less space for grenades, medkits and perks. IMO it should be tested as soon as we get our hands in the first module to avoid the flavour of the month scenario as much as possible.
well the devs have commented that a "veteran" unlock through our progression trees would allow access to the sergeant type weapon loadouts for basic SM classes, so I'd assume a similiar unlock would be achievable through our eldar progressions, it might take weeks/months of gameplay to achieve it but eventually the option to unlock an extra weapon option or two would be availible
Apologies, my post probably came out a bit more pointed than I had wanted Gameplay-wise I don't think that they'll be direct upgrades over each other, but they'll just be sidegrades. Take the Biting Blade for example, sure it does more damage per swing than a normal 1-handed chainsword, but you also lose the ability to use a shuriken pistol with it, and it will probably have a slower swing time. The same thing could be done for a fire-pike. Since normal fusion guns are pretty close-range, the firepike could be a longer range option, but maybe it has a slower fire rate than the fusion gun or does slightly less damage. Becoming an Exarch could have other impacts on gameplay outside of weapons. Since Exarchs are typically the leaders of squads, maybe give them a passive that enhances nearby allies or something of that fashion.
Everyone will have to earn those upgrades / title. But as this is a video game without permanent death I don't see your point on this. What does it matter if everyone is running around with exarch weaponry in this game? You can't permanently die where you lose all progression only to start over again. It's not necessary for the game to mirror the organization breakdown of the game world. Otherwise people would be quiting their jobs and putting those man hours to trying to become an exarch / seargeant in just one class tree at ten thousand of hours of playtime, and that's assuming your a higher skilled player. You know how many people would want to play this game if that was the case? I would just move to a different game.
Fire Pikes have longer range and do more damage than a fusion gun. I would personally just like the hopefully earned rank/weapons be better. I mean exarchs are a pretty posh club to belong to and membership should have its privileges, just sayin'.
Blinding orks isn't a very good strategy. I could swear they hit more often when firing snapshots at BS1 than they ever do with BS2.
On table top it's basically a requirement to be able to roll 5s and 6s for Ork players.. my brother used to hit AT LEAST 2/3 of his shots on 5s and 6s... always confounded me.. freakin' Ork Logic..
I would want to wield: Jainas Mor, or Silent Death, is a three-bladed throwing weapon, tempered within the warp itself. It is wreathed in black fire and is sharper than any mortal blade. It always returns to Jain Zar and never harms her, despite its deadliness.
