I personally dont mind, though spawning NPCs is something that probably wont make it cause: a)They want to keep the NPC count as low as they can so the processing power is fully directed at the thousands of players b)Demons are said to be a playable faction later on, also Brent said demon summoning will not be present at launch in the MMORPG.com interview.
True, but in all fairness, Warp beasts are different from Daemons, in many cases, they can be far far worse.
Still AI NPCs though, irrelevant of their nature. :/ Not saying i wouldnt like to see them, but its unlikely.
As i said, Brent said post launch. Q) And second, any plans on Daemonic summoning on the end of chaos? I already realize why this would be avoided in general so a simple yes or no will suffice A) Brent: At launch, no. But... it is a pretty iconic part of the chaos experience... Also from the same interview: Q) Everyone has their Favorite faction, mine happens to shockingly be the Space Marines. But what about you, what's YOUR favorite Faction? A) David: Tyranids! Brent: Chaos Daemons! Steven: Dark Eldar! http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/mmorpg-com-dev-q-a.1163/ If the Lead Designers favorite race is Chaos Demons... i think we have a set and done deal that the man in charge will see to his fave race getting placed ingame at some point.
Well I think there is a couple ways they could implement Daemons for regular Chaos forces. 1. A sorcerer can cast a spell on downed players that instead of "reviving" them transforms them into a lesser daemon based upon their Mark; Nurgling, Horror, Daemonette, etc. 2. Daemon Hero unit that fields like a Bloodthirstier did in DoW with the chosen player being sacrificed to become a Greater Daemon. or 3. A Hero level Sorcerer can cast a spell on player to change them into a stronger daemon, with a longer debuff time or something.
Nurgling is leagues beneath the other examples, try Plaguebearer. And Greater Demons are being of immense power, far beyond anything any other race can muster, their implementation while welcomed might actually never see the light of day cause one of them can ruin entire armies.
Dropping a Great Unclean One, from a lore perspective, doesn't work like it does in DoW II. It's not just a big tanky thing. One of those babies can plague-ify a continent in the course of a few hours and can cause plagues that ravage the population of an entire world all at once. And that's on accident.
The forum had dozens of threads when it was still young about Demonhood (Demon Prince ascension for players) and spawning Greater Demons, lets just say the feelings were divided to the point where people people insulted each other left and right. Dont get me wrong, if Brent comes one day and says "Hey Crusaders! Are you up for the Greater Demons to be a part of the game?" id bash that FUCK YES button to no end. Id adore for my Blight Mage to follow in the slimy trail of a GUO thats joyously singing and boasting about the deeds of his friends whilst we are marching towards the next objective, but perhaps its better to cement the infantry/vehicle combat and balance it adequately before we even think of putting such massive game changers ingame. Heck they didnt even say a resounding no to Deamonhood: Q) Would it be possible to ascend to daemonhood in the game, or is that a bit to over the top? A) Brent: Not at launch, but maybe after! In any case, this is going too off-topic. If anyone wants to revive the arguments around Demonhood/Greater Demons they are free to make another thread in which we can discuss it again (or they could go some pages back in the Chaos subforum and read the flame wars themselves). Lets leave this thread for what it is, and thats peoples class of choice.
