You guys enjoying Eternal Plasma Cannon?

Why yes, I did enjoy respawning and then getting insta-gibbed by a charged plasma cannon shot before I could take a single step. How did you ever figure that out?

Well, I mean, technically all Space Marines are assassins as their usual role in wars is to do surgical strikes on vital targets like enemy HQs, cutting supply lines, destroying or capturing critical facilities. They're not exactly meant for holding the line - that's what the Imperial Guard is for.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Space Marines don't even make any use of cover in firefights, as their armor is so sturdy that they might as well be hiding behind a tank while totally in the open. IIRC, it's why Space Marine crews in Open-Topped Vehicles caused the vehicle to not be counted as Open-Topped in early versions of the tabletop game - the crew's so heavily armored they might as well be wearing a personal tank hull.

Also, a solid ton of plasteel walking around with a rapid-fire grenade launcher isn't exactly the most stealthy thing imaginable. A Company of Space Marines charging on foot would probably feel like an earthquake to anyone in the vicinity. From the ground shaking.

I was playing the TTG against my mom a number of years ago. I was playing Sisters of Battle, she was playing Space Marines. One of her plasma cannon Devastators got a great hit on the center of a clump of my infantry. One shot took out 80% of the 10-woman squad.

Uou are moslty right, but if I hit you with a charged power fist attack in the back, you totally deserved it, even more when I sprinted to sneack up on you....
  3. Its as competitive as any MOBA, it just hasn't gotten mainstream yet (esports, mlg bullshit).
And its shown to be better competitively as it isn't toxic cancer yet.

    Getting back on topic... :p

I do have one solution to how we could deal with the PC: Hope they introduce aircraft, so we can then just carpet bomb the living shit out of them XD

In all seriousness though, I'm starting to think that this might be a problem that might be unique to the Alpha/Early Access state of the game, as all weapons need to be usable in order to be tested. Once they change the point values of things and people have to earn the PC before they use it, there might be a shift in which weapon gets "overused".

That being said, I'm still going to sit and wait for the forum topics complaining about all the Plasma cheese when the game gets fully released, because then we'll know for sure there's a problem with it

Plasma weapons were spammed in MEQ armies in the TTG until grav weapons came out. Plasma could deal with TEQ happily thanks to its low AP, had the rate of fire to deal with bigger MEQ squads while still ignoring their armor, had the strength to open up transports, dreadnoughts and light tanks, easily put wounds on MCs as well as insta-kill multi-wound T3 characters, and had a decent range on them to boot. Their only downsides were their high point cost compared to other special weapons and tendency to overheat and kill the user, as well as the total invulnerability of anything with the maximum armor value available like Land Raiders or Monoliths.

In the 40k universe, they're such a useful weapon that most of the lore factions make use of one sort of plasma weapon or another.

In real life, we've had plasma weapons since the 1940s (sorta). Our anti-tank rockets take out tanks by creating a plasma stream with a shaped charge and a lining of copper, that melts through any physical armor humanity has access to and... well, I'll leave the details out of this... except the Abrams MBT used by the USA, which have been known to withstand upwards of 50 RPG-7 hits and survive.

Why am I rambling about plasma weapons? Because I'm waiting for female Eldar to become playable, so I don't have a lot of gameplay experience in Eternal Crusade but I wanted to be part of the conversation anyways. Shut up.

I haven't played the TTG in years, so most of those terms and abbreviations were completely lost on me :S

Also, you're making a lot of comparisons to the TTG, which don't really mean a thing in an FPS game. They work too mechanically different. Although, you will still get people who will abuse something if they see a positive use for it with no downsides (i.e. MOAR PLASMA!)

And on your last point: Hey, I'm still waiting for the Orks to come out, but that doesn't stop me from playing the game. I mean, heck, I've had enough experience to able to beat a shield bro... with a COMBAT KNIFE!

TEQ is Terminators and their EQuivalents. Essentially stuff with Toughness 4 and Armor Save 2+.
MEQ is Marines and their EQuivalents. Toughness 4 and Armor Save 3+.
AP is Armor Piercing, a weapon stat. Lower values penetrate tougher armor.
MC is Monstrous Creature, stuff like Tyranid Hive Tyrants, Carnifexes, Eldar Wraithlords and for some utterly bizarre gameplay-related reason, Grey Knight Dreadknights and Tau Riptides.
T3 is Toughness 3, essentially the value a standard Guardsman or Eldar has.

The rest are real-life acronyms that should be fairly well-known. Especially the RPG-7, that thing's been a popular anti-tank weapon since before my dad was born.

I make comparisons to the tabletop because both the tabletop and Eternal Crusade have their weapons, their effects and what they're good at founded on the Warhammer 40k lore. The lore (and just as importantly, aesthetic) is very, very important to Games Workshop's success as a company, as there are lots of other tabletop games with better rules and more than a few with equivalent-quality miniatures.

The lore will dictate how these weapons play out, with potency differences that keep to the lore as much as possible but make the game playable (otherwise there might be like 20-30 Space Marines on Arkhona in total, as they're spread very thin across the Imperium). Plasma weapons in the lore are very, very powerful against a variety of targets, but are very dangerous to use.

This is represented in the tabletop game by having plasma weapons be powerful against a variety of target types, but have a decent chance of killing the user, and are expensive in points. In Eternal Crusade they're powerful against a variety of targets, but if you mis-use one, it hurts you a lot.

Maybe they're just not dangerous enough to use at this point to really deter a lot of people from using plasma and nothing but?

Agree with OP. Though there are times it cracks me up - especially when there's some intense fighting between 2-6+ people in a tight space and you're so focused on it, then suddenly the whole pile of fools explodes.

I have to say, I hate dealing with JA's way more.
