@ Steven Thank you for clearing that up. It was just the impression i got reading thru the forum. I stand corrected, in that regard then, and for that i am glad.
Crusader Ranx, When I first announced the game. Its was the FIRST thing I have said. We are making a system driven games and not a story driven one. Story Driven MMO, in our opinion, is not the best choice for the 40K Universe for the following: 1-Crazy Expensive to make, a multiple of 10X vs system driven (SWTOR cost over 200M$) 2-Live content creating is IMPOSSIBLE to meet the player demands after release. So you ends up with unhappy players vs in World of Tank, 5 New tanks makes the whole community happy for a month. 3-What is 40K first sentence: THERE IS ONLY WAR. Well, WAR is not about you taking a package from Miss Smith and bring it to her Aunt that lives on another continent! ;-) WAR is about MASSIVE conflict where your RACE survivals depends of your fighting abilities and the support of your friends fighting right beside you. 4-Please, tell me the last Story Driven MMO that was successful commercially beside Guild War 2 who actually were VERY bright and VERY good in the procedural PvE content. So Eternal Crusade will not hold the players hand to tell them a Story. If its what you like, I will not put a marketing compulsion on you, Eternal Crusade will not meet your expectation. But if YOU want to CREATE your OWN story in a MASSIVE Combat RPG game with a deep social system where YOU can LEAD other players into EPIC battles. Then, Eternal Crusade will be the BEST game you ever Played. Regards Miguel
@ miguel I can't say i disagree with any of your points. I guess the concern i am trying to express is: is it really possible to make those super epic pvp battles. where your actions has meaning beyond just killing that one other guy? or coloring some square on a map? I am looking for those ohh awesome moments with my friends. where we come together and achieve something. not just kill some group of guys just to have them respawn. Maybe i just don't get the scope of what you are creating, i just havn't seen those epic moments in pvp. On a side note many pvp games tend to become super focused on balance this vs that, and has a very vocal community sometimes to the point of hostile ... MWO springs to mind (yes i know there are other issues with that game, but just an example).
HAAAAA!! YESSS Now you are talking Crusader Ranx. For a moment, I REALLY thought you have been corrupted by Chaos! On this, please go to our website and look at all the FAQ or go to the News part of the forums where you see all our interview. If you are a good leader in our game you might get elected to Strike Force Leader with a team of up to 100 SpaceMarine Players. You will discuss strategy with them on the GRAND scale inside your own Orbital Cruser to plan your next attack while following other guidelines from the whole Faction WAR Concil (again other elected players). This is the EPICNESS of our game. I am not the best one to tell you ALL about this. If you wanna know more please open a Thread for Brent the lead Gameplay and he can tell you what he is working on. On a last personal note, if you could rename your threads to a more positive name that means the same thing. It would make me happy. This is just a personal demand from me, you dont have too.
Ranx, don't worry, Brent Ellison was also one of the dungeon designers on some of the best dungeons in TSW. So, I'm confident our PVE experience will be amazing.
I think maybe he was hoping for more of what "Dark Millennium" was going to be (from what I understood and what information was ever released about it). I completely understand the design decision though personally. I mean, the Planetside heavy model with "true MMO" aspects (NOT help granny quests, but many other aspects) integrated in the War as a whole, seems like the only way you can go. For all it's failings (and it did a damn lot of thing right cuz it's systems were copied to high hell), I liked WAR. I don't see this going in that direction. Plus I think the pricing model, the 40k IP, 4 sides, etc, will give it a boost over WAR and other MMO/Shooter/Hybrid/WTF ever comes out IP's. *shrug* I dunno, just rambling.
Considering Warhammer 40k is based on a player verses player table top game, with a big comunity behind it, i see nothing wrong with going this route, although I do love warhamner 40k Lore and novels. So I am glad i read that they would add pve some dungeons, i hope it works, it would be nice if that lead to a raid style battle or maybe an Aion style PvPvE? just putting that out there.
just like with the table top let the story be driven by the results of the battles waged. the devs should approach this as a massive tabletop campaign, not a themepark mmo. if i want a 40k story told to me ill pick up one of the 300+ novels to choose from. i want a 40k mmo so that i can be a part of telling a story in the 40k universe, and be an ultimate badass doing it.
@OP Your "pvp hell" is a PVP paradise for me, and If you think massive pvp can't give you that "wow that was amazing" feeling, you probably never tasted it.
