Yet Another Twitch Pvp Game.... Please Dont!

Well from what I have gathered its going to be similar to Planetside. The main focus should be PVP, because in the future there is only war. PVE should be secondary. For example arent the tyranids a NPC force which attacks a faction who becomes too strong? which sounds good to me.

Regarding the grind. You should be able to get decent weapons and armour easily. In a pvp focused game, it needs to be more about skill than equipment. Leveling your character should just open new routes and ways to kill someone while not being overpowered. Even the starting weapon should be able to kill a vet.

Also another way to keep the grinders happy is to have the badge system. Where say if you kill 100 tanks get a special medal which you can add to your armour.
  2. 1. I didnt say that you promoted grind.
    2. Having a 'portal' or or something in the middle of a battlefield would be horrible for both the Open PvPer and the Instanced PvPer. It makes the Instanced guy fight in battles that he doesnt want to to get to the one he does. While the Open guys thinks that the Instanced guys are going to fight on the battle field.

Then it doesnt need to be in the game. The game is based upon and revolves around open PvP. EC is open PvP. Every time you say or any says that they want Instanced PvP is the same as saying you dont want EC.

/agreed. It should be open world only. I don't want this game to turn into a arena-fest game. I would play LOL for that.

Here's what they have announced so far:

    http://forum.eternalcrusade.com/threads/compilation-of-info-about-eternal-crusade.1959/

When I originally thought of a WH40k game, I imagined people in control of a single squad. They were populated in according to TT balancing (10 Guardsmen, 5 Space Marines). I always imagined Matchmaking games, where people would all jump into random games, balanced by pitting armies of equal points against one another. The battles would be inherently different every time, although the races would be locked (only IG could fight together with IG), and maybe even the IG could fight SM's. I am still excited about this game, even without instanced pvp, and even though it isn't what I would've imagined.

However, just because this has become a pretty decent discussion, I want to throw one more idea out. What if instanced pvp could be implemented as a raid. Basically, it would take place off world, the lore would be that the Imperium, etc. needs your help on a distant planet, Ork forces etc. are invading this outpost. The idea would be that you have to put up the resources to fund the mission. The victor would recieve the spoils, being requisition, exp. (winners and losers), and perhaps some other kind of reward. Maybe the option to call in Librarians. Maybe Baal Predators. The idea is that a faction will need to do off-world raids (instances) in order to obtain certain loot. These would not be ideal grinding areas, as the cost of funding the mission and the strategic planning involved would be somewhat difficult. The increased cost of vehicles and gear would of course be justified by the logistics of space travel. Since the game is pvp, the other team who's off world planet was being attacked would have the option to join in on the fight there. There costs would be minimal, only costing transportation, as all the vehicles necessary for combat would be there waiting. Maybe top end vehicles, like Land Raiders, would still have an associated cost, so that the defenders weren't invulnerable, but the idea is that the defenders have the advantage, and the attackers must really pool resources, and strategize in order to win, and recieve their loot. The defenders could also gain rewards, but they may not be as significant. This makes raiding off world planets a risk. The loot could be 1 Land Raider, or 1 land raider equivalent, or perhaps 5 smaller vehicles, or just 1 hero unit that your Commanders is able to deploy as. This could potentially add both Raid content, as well as overall strategy to the open world pvp.

Its long I know: Instances that cost resources, are still pvp, and offer rewards to the victor, either attacker or defender, that will affect the open world game.

  6. have you played space marine? have you played planetside 2 or 1? if not then go play both--there is a demo for space marine and PS2 is free so you have no excuse. Then come back.
  7. Raids in an open PvP game?

Hoo!! Sorry for that. You Crusaders are tough regarding Lore and I LOVE it. I remember having to apologise after my Comicon Presentation where I said Empire of Man instead of Emperium of Men! :)

Regarding ball size ;-) Well, you have not yet seen what we will hide/do in different Tyranides Territories... You will understand my comments when you see it. So area will not be for the faint of heart. I like to have some incredible challenges in there that can only be beaten by the best of the best.

I remember in Age of Conan, there was a Raid Boss who was made to be UNBETABLE..... and he got bested by a German CRAZY hardcore guild anyway...... but it took them 6 months. Funcom actually, if I remember well, did a Press Release to mention them.

    :)

Crusaders Tornadium, do not think of RAID by its Gaming definition. Use the real Military definition of it.

One of the VERY important philosophy of Eternal Crusade is that we dont try to forces you or control you in anyway in the game. The underworld Dungeon (Mines, etc..) as an exemple will be designed for X amount of players but there is not gate to stop you from bringing more or less that it was designed for.

Steven and Brent can talk to you more about this.

I don't care of you call it a mission, a raid, or a Tyranid Party, I'll be happy to slaughter some 'nids.

A question on that: If they're not instanced and you can be attacked while killing Nids in their caves, can you "train" them onto the enemy?

Memories of BlackBurrow in Everquest come to mind. :D
