idk RO2 did the no jumping really well when you came up to a wall you would usaully jus tjump over like a chest high wall instead the guy climbs over it with a climb animation though it was quite neat but would still prefer a jumping option
Woa, wait a minute. Is not having a standard jump a real thing, cause that sounds majorly annoying, imagine just getting gunned down cause you get stuck behind a small rock pile or some bullshit. I don't like this at all, any potential for dumb behavior should not outweigh simple mechanic necessity. Plus as has been stated, this is power armor worn by a super soldier, he should be able to jump a few feet, not haloesque spam jump, but enough to bypass small obstacles. No not having jump is bad, really bad and I know it will cause me in game rage and frustration, I've run into this kind of thing, it's gotten me killed and made yell, "well why the fuck couldn't just jump over that" and rage quit a few times.
You should broaden you gaming experience. There are many games that do not have free jumping. They typically have other methods of traverse. For example Assassins Creed has no free jumping yet you have much more freedom of movement in that game than most games that have free jumping.
Not being able to climb over obstacles, and not being able to free jump at any time, are not the same thing. Free jumping is an easy (lazy) way of curing getting stuck, but more modern games do so in better ways. Gears of War, for example, has no jump, but you can leap over obstacles. Assassin's Creed doesn't really have a jump, either, and you can move around in that freely. Bunny hopping is a major annoyance, so in some way or other it has to be that players are unable to do that. I, personally, see no reason to be able to randomly jump in open ground.
Wot? Those kind of games lack jumping as a mechanic to keep you from getting out of their level design, I have played them and no they aren't better, they look a bit better cause they can program each sequence of allowed jump. But no, still some little bullshit object is going to trip you up, and then comes the time when some fucking log or something blocks you because you can't "bunny hop" a bit to just get over he damn thing and end up getting gunned down for it. You're also wrong about assassins creed, you can just jump randomly, it's just negligible in comparison to sequenced jumps, but that's what the game was designed for. This is a massive open world, and it is just plain stupid to think they'll program in a sequence for every little thing that can trip you up, and a battle can happen anywhere not just at the bases. I can assure I'll be far more pissed off if I die because a rock got in my way and I couldn't get to cover than "oh look at that newb over there bunny hopping for no reason, my day is ruined!" And not to mentioned finding new ways to use the landscape to, say, find a good sniping spot, or just explore. No, I totally reject this argument, you think I shouldn't be able to use the terrain how I want because OMG it's so annoying when people bunny hop. Edit- missed this one I've played Assassins Creed, I've played A LOT of games. In AC you can jump randomly, it's just designed for free-running and the random jump is negligible feature. That game is complete differ t in intent and has no relevance to this discussion.
Lol. Not really, the jump packs still offer all that. And, again, if they build an even half credible climbing system there'd be no reason to get stuck on stuff. Yes, in a shooting game with a single worldwide server, especially as someone living in Australia, I do think bunny hopping would be an annoyance. I don't care how it's eliminated, as long as players can't jump repeatedly in open ground, or are somehow penalised (preferably with a meaningful penalty).
Jumping is a tool. It enables one to maneuver over low obstacles, like craters, hedges, low walls. I like jumping, it helps create the illusion that the world one is playing in is real. It is up to the devs to prevent abuse of jumping, by ensuring it doesn't give any unintended advantages in the game. If the only arguement against jumping is that it looks awful when players jump for no reason, hopping around like bunnies, simply knock 15% off the movement speed while one is jumping... problem solved. I also like the fluidity of a vault system, but the key/button that activates a vault would be best served if tied to the key for jumping, and NOT tied to the key for taking cover and/or crouching. In fact, that would seem best: combine crouching and taking cover to one key and jumping and vaulting to another. Contrary to ONE person's opinion, in the lore Space Marines actually jump quite often, traversing difficult terrain with surprising agility and speed. Terminators, on the other hand, are rather slow and lumbering, so I can see making a case for Termies not being able to jump. And don't confuse jumping with jump-packing, the first is a low hop that takes you over small terrain "bumps", the latter is essentially limited flight, and is intended to cover large chunks of terrain at a time. T
So basically as I've stated the entirety of your grievance is that you would find it annoying to see another player bunny hop. Then shoot them and shut up. I'll care about what other players do after I'm sure the mechanics are in place to facilitate what I do. Assault classes are limited to pistol and melee from my understanding, so that does not account for players making creative use of terrain to get into a position the devs did not specifically create for that purpose, such as a group of rocks that a sniper can use as stairs to find a good position. You want to limit my potential because someone might annoy you. News flash, people will always find a way to annoy you, it's the gods damn internet. This is supposed to be a massive open world, the devs cannot program every single hindrance or abstract pathway that players will run into on a continent sized map. Your idea sacrifices tactical choices and gameplay for some petty concern.
If it hinders my ability to play, yes. As we're not going to be having local servers, and thus latency is highly likely, then having people able to bunny hop would be an extra way of dodging. Being hindered in my ability to play because of being further away and subject to some BS hop spam would be highly annoying, much as it was in Halo. If that was not an issue, then whatever. I never one said it'd break immersion for me, I couldn't care less about that side of things.
There would be the difference, I don't think anyone (who is serious) wants a Halo spam jump. An open world just has too many variables to account for every object being instanced that should be. As the last guy said, if jumping slows your movement down, then bunny hopping like a fool won't be a viable strategy, and that player down range will want to carefully consider how they use the jump to dodge. Jumping is a strategic choice in my eyes, one that compensates for these variable objects, not a spam mechanic. It can be included in this way, and shouldn't be thrown away because it COULD be implemented wrong (Halo Spam Jump)
