Yeah if the mechanics are smooth enough that there is no need for a jump mechanic, then that's fine with me. If I can move anywhere freely with hindrance on their engine, then you've got a thumbs up from me. And I agree, the dodging is cool as is, makes me excited to see what the other races look like. Especially Eldar
Games I've seen useless jumping that make no sense in combat. All Battlefields, CoD, PS2, basically every game that has been listed has not having problems with random jumping and bunny hopping (this exists outside the glitch from quake). Hell even MWO is having issues with jumping abuse and that jump system is extremely limited and slow. About the only game that does jumping right is Dark Souls and there it is more of a gap clearer than a jump due to the need to be running, low height, and rather awkward landing.
I count that action as Vaulting which is part of scaling and the like because it a specific animation related to overcoming an obstacle
Except you can also jump on the spot for no reason just to annoy people trying to shoot you. That is the argument at hand.
That is why i am in favor of not having jumping. All "jumps" should be a part of a scaling animation (climbing, closing gaps, etc) with the exception being Jumppacks. What i am saying is that if you consider the fluid animation of leaping a pre-determined gap to be jumping then you definition falls into the scaling mechanic.
My first thought it would seem random sniper team positioning and positioning in general would/could be hindered by lack of a jump button. Lack of a jump button could work for smaller arena games like the Space Marine multiplayer modes but with something on a larger scale Planetside 2 esque i think it can be 50/50 good or bad not sure what to think really until the modules.
Made a quick paint drawing to more accurately show my feelings on jumping, or the lack thereof. No jumping in Space Marine 'worked' because the maps were small and linear. But it did seriously restrict freedom. If you didn't have a jump pack you couldn't properly exploit the terrain to your advantage, to leap up to sneaky places to get the drop on people and set up ambushes. There was very little you could do in the way of innovative positioning on those maps. In the much larger open world like we're supposedly going to have on Arkhona, I will be seriously disappointed if we're restricted in the same manner. Including jumping opens up so many more opportunities on a gameplay level that I'll not be happy if people are so upset by the concept of jumping marines that they shoot themselves in the foot over this. If the vaulting/climbing system is implemented to allow more than just Battlefield-style 'leaping over knee-high walls with a disgusting animation' to actually let you get to interesting places then I will be happier, but it'll still be a poor substitute for actual jumping.
