Wrecked Vehicles

So i was seaching the forum and i had an idea; almost all games design vehicles the same way, you hit them till their hp reaches 0% and then the vehicle explodes and disapears forever.

However carrying over a similar system to the tabletop game could allow for cool and more inovative gameplay.

For example your driving a rhino and a looted tank takes you down to 30% hp the rhino then becomes imobalized, unable to move but can still turn and fire all it weapons, the looted tank hits you again and takes you down to 20% hp, the rhino is then wrecked.

A wrecked vehicle could then be repaired by the driver or destroyed but the attacking forces could loot the wrecked vehicle for xp, loot drops or whatever. (giving them a reason to keep the wrecked vehicle alive)

Please respond and give your thought,

    Thanks.

Interesting concept. It could make the Techmarines/whatever a more viable and rewarding choice on the battlefield.

A very interesting idea heck I like it only thing would be how long does the wrecked vehicle stay in the game before disappearing because there would have to be something implied so that to much doesn't clutter the system and cause a crash
  4. This is actually not a bad idea, a good system for looting, gaining bonus xp and ammo.

  5. This would help add to the visual feel of their being a battle going on. I hate when an epic battle occurs with vehicles exploding and bodies flying everywhere. But then when there's a lull in the action all the destruction just disappears, and it looks like nothing ever happened. That was probably one of my main complaints for the first DOW, all the bodies just sink into the ground. Dark crusade had it better, I loved looking at sites of particularly massive slaughters, looking at the piles of dead, thinking, "now THAT was a battle!" If this game has vehicle wrecks, dead bodies and battlefield scarring (i.e. craters) the game will really have an atmosphere of a proper war.

  6. It really depends though on how many the servers can handle. If a battle progresses really quickly and the numbers increase faster than the server can handle, it can be a really bad idea. Better that they have smaller placeholders for them, despite the less visual appeal, than having large wrecks and corpses that take up more of the servers data than can be handled.

Also, being able to repair them or loot wrecks is a great idea because they already said assets are hard to produce so being able to scavenge chassis or rebuild them off pre-existing ones is an excellent way to remain in character and lore for an ongoing campaign.

  7. I think this is a good idea if you have a older PC perhaps there could be a slider for the bodies

This is a really good Idea! I vote that they should add this. Great Thinking!

Vehicle modular damage has been talked about a lot but hasn't really been responded to by the devs as of yet. As they're all keen 40K TT players I'm sure this idea has at least crossed their minds. It will be interesting to see if super heavy tanks and their modular damage come into EC, as vehicles and super heavy vehicles have different damage charts.

It's not that big of a deal, honestly, due to the pikko server technology being used for EC. If there is a colossal battle happening and the current server nodes for some reason are swamped, then new server nodes can be added on demand. Check out the stickied pikko server thread in this subforum and watch the video in that thread. As for actual vehicle wreckage assets, seeing as they're now considered objects instead of vehicles by the game engine (no simulation required here), with a lower poly count, lower texture detail and so on, wreckage will require less processing power.

I'd like to see different wreck models for vehicles. In World of Tanks wreckage between the same vehicle models is identical, unless the turret has been blown off. I'd love to see wreckage that shows a different story, for example, a Rhino wreck could have it's hatches and doors blown open, and tracks disabled. Another could look like the hull has been periced by shells of enemy tanks and caught fire, etc. Wrecks could also provide a nice boon for the in game economy Miguel has told us of.

  10. I really hope they have different "damage states" in game for vehicles. Where your engine can take damage, or your wheels or tracks, which result in reduced agility and speed for vehicles.

I really detest games that have zero damage models for vehicles, where you just hit the vehicle XX amount of times and it goes kaboom. Those types of games were fine, when I was 10 years old. There's really no excuse in this day and age of gaming for substandard or nonexistent damage models.

I'd also like to see destroyed or knocked out vehicles, the ability to loot ammo, weapons, or resources(tech) from those vehicles. As well as the ability to repair or capture vehicles that have been abandoned that don't have catastrophic damage.
