I guess I don't understand what people don't get about buying a game before it's done. The game is in pre-alpha. Changes are going to happen. There is no way the game was going to turn out exactly as the devs advertised in the beginning. Luckily, they weren't advertising a finished product. They've actually done pretty well about sticking to the plan and listening to our input.

After watching people on this forum since near the beginning, I understand why many developers don't let the fans in on stuff.

They only entertain the idea of earning RTP if they decide to bring into the store items that are unique and can't be earned in game.

yes basically with "no RPT obtainable in game" they have confirmed that NOTHING in the store is really needed for the gameplay and that players can unlock all by playing (with no need of grinding and farming RTP for stuff).

  6. The last I heard the RT items are to act like base weapons with a pre-installed mod, so you can create the exact same stats by installing your own mods you earn in game, it just will still be cosmetically different.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who's been entirely comfortable with these changes.

I mean, I liked Miguel, and his enthusiasm, but by the time he left he really wasn't interacting very well with people outside our community. The inconsistent information, the promises, the cancellations - it just wasn't going very well. People were getting the wrong idea.

Nathan has a great resume for this kind of game, and his decisions seem well fitted to what EC needs right now - a lot of intense, comprehensive development. He's not a marketing guy, he's a designer. Banners only on sergeants? Fantastic, founders aren't necessarily leaders and shouldn't be treated as such. Siege tanks? Great asymmetry. Removing RTP? That indicates to me they're buckling down on the cosmetic only guarantee, though woe betide them if that ever gets reverted again. But for its flaws EVE had a pretty healthy policy with in game purchases and I think a veteran of that game would know more than anyone what kind of backlash PtW can cause.

And us not seeing as much of EC gameplay for a while? Or getting early access modules? They need to work on the game, and all that other stuff was just distracting from that. The more time they spend on delivering rather than promising us they can deliver, the more confident I am about the game's release.

I just wish we had both Nathan and Miguel for the combined reasons you raise :(

I've been pestering Miguel about a new Senior Producer since Stephanie moved away from the project. I know he was excited to be hiring an SP and to announce Nathan several months before it was put out officially.

There's something to be said for 'hype done right' (I've referenced that a couple of times). If you don't think Nathan AND Miguel at industry shows would have been amazing (and not saying you don't Luc :)) then you be nuts. Would have loved to see that energy and focus in the same place and on the same message. But no, I don't think rational people should be broken up by the way it ended up happening.
Agreed with the modules side of things. I don't think there's a great problem with showing gameplay as part of the regular twitch though. Not massive 30-min combat snippettes, but yeah, for demonstrations of concepts and systems like Alexi showing the revamped combat section or Brent using the Apo with Houman. That stuff has factual teeth while using readily available assets.

Still, Black-Out period will hopefully be something we look back on and barely register as 4 months of darkness when the patience is rewarded *shrug*

I like your post man. Pragmatic :)

This is why I think there's something to be said against anouncing games for over 1 year in advance.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all the shenanigans that go on on these forums mostly, but it also leaves way too much time where people get bored/impatient/whatever and start nitpicking etc.
The 'blackout' isnt sucha bad route, but it would have been even better if they hadnt start all this this much in advance.

    No way.

There's enough obscurity and opaqueness in the games industry :(. Transparency is a vaunted commodity and it's been a boon for companies who've chosen to interact with their "pre-customers" even before development commenced. Think about it before demanding less.

The problems will inevitably be firmly shaping the message and reinforcing the WIP/harsh nature of game development. The other issue is fans losing their ever-loving shit any time something is changed. You get about 1:10 dickheads for every member with a grasp on maturity in my xp.

I don't want to be treated like the lowest common denominator within a given fan community. Fuck that, I've got a firm grasp on my shit and I don't mind slapping down dickheads :D
