I understand this is a big request, and something most design leads hate. With that being said, I know that these kinds of systems provide massive benefits to the developers if they swallow their pride and allow the community to build alongside them. I currently work for both Valve, and SOE on making items on my own time. I would LOVE to make items for you and be an armorer in the 40k universe. In my Grey Knights Omnibus, there is a character sent to a warp planet, In the bowels of a cursed ship, there is an armorer, constantly working to provide gladiators their ultimate gear. This writing inspired me and I think of it frequently while I work in my own "forge". Honestly, I dream of making armor for the 40k universe. I would hope EC can setup a system that will reward/encourage my creating 40k pieces. here is a sculpt I was playing with a couple months back, this is for my own use, and has been sitting for months, but is an example of how 40k inspires others to create and grow. Which is awesome, thanks! he is a black templar btw, and I know its not cannon to be "shirtless", I was also doing a muscle study. The point is, jsut give us a forum section and specifications, we will give you some good work, and probably some good laughs.
I support this idea, but perhaps the 40k Forge could utilize a more standard pallet of tools rather than "anything and everything." I'd rather not have to see a CSM EC fanatic running around with 40 semi-flaccid dongs all over his body.
Hammer of Daemons, great book. This is a great idea as well. I have seen some very impressive stuff coming out of the various forges. Also, it helps budding artists, designers etc do something to put in their resume or portfolio.
Awesome idea, but not at launch. It shouldn't be a priority, do it once the game has been balanced and sorted out entirely and the majority of the community is happy, then you can add the ability for players to submit content to the workshop that may or may not be included in the game.
I would like to see something like this, so long as it is cosmetic (with maybe some of the usual crafting elements added). But what level of moderation would you apply? Being a lore nerd I'm pretty hot on things that look out of place in 40k, so would you be allowed armour that makes you look like a marine from Starcraft (for example), or would they be able to block that?
I'd say this should be an add on to a pre-existing forge application. The forge would exist at launch to customize your character, giving artists time to practice, and then would open up to an in-game free market.
if memory serves when i had a look at the space marine models in max, they weren't that high a poly and looked excellent in game, but i would be definetely interested in a player studio as i spend most of my days modelling for w40k mods anyways, and marine bits ive made a plenty
If community contributions are accepted, there needs to be a whitelisting process, and it should only be for stuff for cosmetics or dueling maps (if they get added). Open community contributions usually make a huge ugly mess and hurt competitiveness.
