Wolves And Other Mounts

No pets or followers? So I guess Watchers in the Dark are out, as are servitors, as are skull probes, as are thunderfire canons, as are etc. etc. etc. Face it, there are pets and followers in Tabletop. I want my Space Wolf character to have a wolf pet, even if its just cosmetic. I want my Black Templar Space Marine to have a Neophyte follower. (They will be released eventually... right? r-right guys?). I still think the best way to implement the imperial guard is to play as a sergeant, lieutenant or commissar, with a squad of NPC guardsmen following you.

Thunderwolves can function just like Bikes, only with a close combat/pounce attack rather then a ranged pew-pew-pew attack.

Honestly it all sounds great and i would like to see it but i don't see it happening at the launch or even in a pvp surounding with massive battle wtf would your pet do i you are a dark angel no point in leting others see them if one faction can't have the pet non should have them around on the battlefield maybe on you personal ship or sector where you make your home there i could see pets/followers around but to have a wolf that attackes now that's just asking for an not ballanced system don't get me wrong i am a die-hard space wolf and i would love to ride my grufing into many great battles but i don't see it happening

Why not? Just direct the animal to attack your target. If it dies, then its gone until you respawn or the mission ends. Obviously it won't be easy to aquire such a beast - it should cost a lot of resource, and only someone of adequate rank can use it. It helps distinguishing a *true* badass space wolf from a fresh bloodclaw. Same can be said about your Ravenwing Bike Squads, or Imperial Fist Centurions (They seem like the most likely to use these suits, which I hope are not anywhere near this game ever. Centurions are ridiculous)

I see your point and it would be amazing but so much hassle just to make something that is even harder to balance or control who gets it when does someone get it should they be available all over the map yes/no/maybe

you see to many problems from such a simple thing don't get me wrong it would require more planing and stuff like that it can be done but i don't see it being implemented at least not at the start maybe later if /when the games becomes a success

Why yes, those are all out.
This isn't a WoW clone. Followers and NPC squadmates might work in those type of games, since hits are recorded on statistics and dice rolls. Here attacks must be blocked actively by the player.
It's been stated in this thread before why followers won't be feasable or balanced.
It's been stated in another thread why AI controlled squads will break balance and melee.
    Bottom point is:
Followers or NPC squads will only promote Zerg rushing rather than teamplay between players and will be a hassle to code in and pointless strain on the server. The devs are obviously trying to go for a game based around skill and large team organization and both will be rendered moot when players start bringing out npcs that fight for them.

Cosmetic pets and followers are a terrible idea as well. We don't need hundreds of pointless followers in addition to hundreds of players on a battlefield at the same time. If you MUST have ANYTHING like that, keep it as decoration in your cruiser. Not on the battlefield.

I can't help but love it when people throw the term "WOWCLONE WOWCLONE" around like it was a prayer. What, pray tell, would make this a WoW clone if we allowed for specialized mounts and NPC followers? WoW isn't the only game that did it. You might as well be saying that WoW allowed exploration, so everything that has that makes it a WoW clone. "That damn Skyrim, having a follower and open ended world, such a wow clone there!"

Followers work in TT. They are part of the lore and won't break a twitch based shooter. They will obviously be weaker then the player, but their overall presence adds to the depth of the game. Thunderwolves exist in tabletop, they can exist in the game. Without a follower system, countless units will be axed from the game. This includes gretchin, helldrakes, conscripts, cultists, plague zombies, and so much more. There is SO MUCH that can be offered, and I can't help but think that by denying their presence, it will make things feel hallow.

I disagree that NPC squads will break balance, especially in Melee. Individual Guardsmen are weak and can't hold a candle in melee combat against the likes of ANYTHING ELSE EVER. They die in the thousands, hundreds of thousands, and millions on a day-to-day basis in the 40k universe. Their weapons are glorified flashlights. How we can implement this particular faction without ungodly amounts of players who are satisfied with being obliterated just by *looking* at demonic beings?

Zerg Rush is what the Imperial Guard, Ork and Tyranid armies are good for. It is what they do. To them, it is all about the numbers game. Crush the enemy with massively overwhelming force.

    You know what? Play PS2.

Tell how much fun it is to attack as or defend against a zerg rush.

Is it following the lore? Nope, but a dynamic game not based around zerg rushes or NPC armies will bring players back for another round.
