I see. Unfortunately, as the game's focus is a massive and epic war with large battles and countless skirmishes where almost all sides are player-run, a Secret World-style experience wouldn't really fit. However, you should still try out the beta. It might be more enjoyable than you first thought. I mean, the competitive edge would not really be there in the game due to the lack of battlegrounds and arenas. The immense amount of players also mitigate this problem. I mean, if you storm the enemy's fort with 50+ allies, it is pretty hard to gauge, even by yourself, just how well can you perform compared to other players. I too, was quite frustrated in many pvp games, due to being massacred by more experienced players. However, it is something that you have to overcome. If you manage to last out the initial wave of negative experiences, you will improve. Experiment with the classes, try to find the one that best suits your playstyle, then practice diligently with it. After some time, you will be massacring the enemy, instead of the reverse. And then, you will enjoy the game far more. Also, you wil be making friends along the way, gain the respect of your comrades for being a good player, join a guild, ascend to an officer rank and perhaps one day, you can be one of the top players on the planet, commanding a 1000-strong force.

A valid way to play the Game, I suppose. After all, charismatic leadership is attractive to those who enjoy the praise and attention given to them. Personally, I think I will be a freelancer agent, giving aid and advice when needed. I want to accumulate a nice reputation and a wealth of experience before joining a guild, since I really dislike being bossed around for being a noob. Then it will be only a matter of time before I first take control of my guild, then my entire faction. >=)
I don't think this game will suit you unfortunately. It's a heavy PvP focus, PvE only really isn't a viable way to play.
Shoulda read/watched the interviews and articles first dude, understand what type of game this is. It doesn't sound like it's for you. Maybe you should look into Space Hulk Deathwing instead...
Fight you coward! This is the only way to improve, to excell, over the dead bodies of your enemies, you must spill your blood too, it's inevitable! How are you going to heal other people's psyche while you are afraid to face your own daemons? Fight I say or disintegrate into your little pathetic inner world. Fight!!!!
