I thought I made that clear already, but ok, let's try again Animation and Art Problem: - size difference problem: e.g. your Ork is now a big and you want to execute another player, with only scaling suddenly the "cut to the throat" will be higher or even above the head of the other player. - size equipment problem: scaling only works with worn stuff when it scales with the character, so unless suddenly your shoota needs to scale too - immersion!? - else your animations again will show holding the your weapons at different spots. - now if you don't go for linear scaling you end up with armor and equipment passing through each other "clipping", look very bad. Level Design Problem: - Environment needs to be "adapted" to different sizes, while a cover might work for one size, for another it won't - again, changeing at least the animations - doorways, corridors, all sorts of small areas might be effected Now as said - I am aware that we are not talking about handling 3 different sized orks as 3 complete different races, but the workload of adjusting stuff might end up as if we would have 2 different races. Compared to what they are doing in GW2 this is a very different problem! They don't need to care that a sword swing is at the right position or the bolter is aiming at the right target! Cheers!
Hah, fair enough. Just wanted to direct the attention to a game where "growing" occurs, seems its all allot deeper than i considered.
NP there are many things that seem to be easier than they are - and I am happy to enlighten everyone about this! I feel the more people know, the more they understand game development and appreciate it. at least i hope so Cheers!
checking the star citizen site: checking my bank account: umm so i suppose we are ok with single size orks.
Star Citizen has like PROPER news reports on their youtube of the latest happening and like a weekly show. Its crazy :/. I actually wonder what the EC fund (without founders) consists of. I know the devs have said they have budgeted things out, but I'm just curious what that budget is . Really does seem like they are spending as little money as possible on Marketing!
Yeah, the two projects are pretty incomparable. To my knowledge, Star Citizen has raised more crowd funding than any other video game ever made. This is one of those instances where GW needs to step in & give Behaviour some additional funding. I really feel this would add a great deal to the Ork/"Free to Waagh" experience & impress new players. After all the "Free to Waagh" model is going to be the vast majority of Eternal Crusade's new playerbase & set a first impression. They are going to have TONS of questions. By having a very recognizable hierarchy, they will know who to direct their questions to. It will also make Orks feel more unique & lore appropriate. I've visited all the race forums & most of them are encountering similar issues. Workload for the existing artists is just to great. If Games Workshop intends on breaking the barriers it has created for itself in the video game industry with several of its previous titles, Eternal Crusade is its best shot. If Eternal Crusade ends up being massively successful, not only will it benefit from game sales, but miniature/tabletop sales as well from exposure. What can founders do to see this come to fruition Pat? Seeing as this is largely a privately funded project & everyone in our clan has contributed at the Heresy Pack level, I feel we have done everything in our power to add this very necessary lore/new player addition.
Rather then grow throughout the game, grow upon promotion. Now a squad leader? Congrats, your bigger. Now a warboss? Holy smokes, your huge! And benefits come with these promotions - IE, more health, more damage in close combat.
if you watch space marine the game you can clearly see that the bigger orks are pretty quick compared to there smaller counter parts/smaller orks= stubby legs= slow run. View: http://youtu.be/NH5cupkr8YA
i agree with Benny and i liked Armyghy idea with the promotions but the staff could implement these changes later on in a patch, if time issue is a concern for launch and what not
Well hopefully, our friends at Behavior will obtain the necessary funds through their founders program to allow for the extra time to make orks as close to the lore as possible. Seeing as how they are integral to the growth of the game, since they are,of course, the first thing non-paying players will experience, I'd hope that somewhere post-launch, they will be towards the top of the priority list to receive the necessary love they deserve. (Super long sentence, will possibly fix later today). Much love for Behavior, much love friends.
