I've played Star Wars the Old Republic Online, i know there are some folks who are/aren't fans here but let's ignore the hate for the moment and get to point please. In the game, there is the option to request a personal Duel between players of the same faction. So a Sith Warrior can challenge another Sith to a personal Duel. They won't kill each other, but it's still treated like an actual fight in PVE/PVP. My question is will Eternal Crusade have a similar function for players to Spar? They don't have to "DUEL" they could Spar. It would be a good way for players too practice the melee system with a friend or clan mate without risking penalties from Team Killing. My Guild in SWTOR has a weekly Duels event, sort of a tournament with our members. So what if players wanted to do the same within their Clan? For example: Warriors of Chaos who dedicate to the blood god, may want too fight one another for dominance. Likewise some Orks may want to prove whose the biggest and strongest. Space Marines will casually practice with their brothers. Would something like THIS be possible? Maybe designate an area that is a safe zone for friendly Sparing without the penalties of Teak Killing or intrusion from outside (enemy) sources. What do you guys think?
IIRC, the Strike Cruisers will have training rooms. If that's true, then the possibility for practice/duels is there. I for one would like to have the option of arranging practice/duels/matches between squads within a faction, not just individual players.
ZOMG TORTANIC!!11111, etc. To get back on topic: I don't really see a reason why not to do this. Infighting is inherent to the Orkz, and we know that SM spend the better time of their day (if they are not on actual campaigns) in combat training and the like. The same could hold true for the CSM (albeit I'm a bit unsure about the "No-killy" part). As far as it regards the Eldar - the finesse they display in battle would be very hard to achieve if not for constant training. There's no gameplay reason not to have this either - it keeps the player sharp, and so long as you can ignore the few "DUEL 1V1 I HOOK U IN DA GOOBAR M8" players, there's no disadvantage for players who choose not to due sparring battles.
Friendly fire is active. I do not see a need to add a duel system when you can just duel. Only exception is if combos and blocking does not work exactly as it would between two enemies.
Cause actually killing each other may be taking duels a bit far... Dueling is intrinsic to Space marines, especially the wolves. Orks too, dunno about Chaos, ive a feeling that eldar dont duel as such, their idea might have to be different
I get where you are going with this. If we had a special duel-event that a player initiates (without some annoying pop-up that can be spammed) and a 2nd player accepts, then it would have to be in the "safe-zones" only. We can't have people dieing without penalties because they were in "duel" mode or have enemies pick off injured guys that are dueling.
Yeah I would enjoy this feature. As well as casual duels there could be ranked duels in a tournament fashion. Obviously later down the line.
Add it to the strike-cruisers in an arena type room, its simple really but let it be active there, i am sick and tired of being spammed "duel me duel me duel me", let it ONLY be available in the strikecruiser arena.
