Will The Emperor Die And Get It Over With?

Discussion in 'Off-Topic Discussions' started by Witchblade, May 28, 2015.

  1. So I just put down the latest edition to my Warhammer 40,000 books and I got to say this;

Will the @#!$ing Emperor just die and get it over with?

The book I read was the Inquisition War Trilogy by Ian Watson. There is a "scene" where the character Draco actually speaks, or is spoken to, to the Emperor. I got to doing some reading in the Lexicanum regarding what I learned in my book. Will the emperor ever just die or be reborn? I'm getting really really tired of reading new books only to hear about how mankind is circling the toilet, or how there are only chaos primarchs left, or how the emperor is dying and soon the astranomicon is going to go out. Can he just do it already or be reborn? This is getting really old. When will the 40k universe ever see some form of really ground shaking event? I guess that's what this boils down to. Maybe the return of one of the "missing" loyal primarchs or the Emperors death or rebirth. Something.

This universe feels like I'm watching one of the transformer movies where you spend 2 hours seeing the "good"guys get totally beat down. No wonder there are so many Chaos fans in my local group. At least they have some primarchs and a decent level of something. The Imperium is like the dullest lore wise lately to me. I'm not really excited for my next five books from the black library to come in. It's just going to be more of the same thing, space marines getting chewed up and the Imperium getting totally messed up more with no end or hope in sight.

I guess that's my late night rant.

what is the point of go beyond if there is 10-12k of years to fill?

The point of it all is it's the desparate 11th hour and there are many enemies to fight and fight eachother for the purpose of the (primarily tabletop) game. I want the lore to advance as well but I also don't want the current system/lore to become yesterday's news... I dunno, I'd like to see them advance the lore a little bit at time. I think they will...

If Imperium lore is boring you just go xeno. Plus Imperial players need someone to fight esp in computer games.... other than Chaos which seems to be popular.

I don't want the story to advance beyond this. First off, because it could be something really simple (tyranids eat everything, orks kill everything, tyranids eat orks killing tyranids?), something disappointing (RANDOM WARP STORMS EVERYWHERE! Terra is now inside the Emperor who is inside Mars!) or something that will take away from the feel and war that it is currently.
This too. A bit at a time sounds interesting though... Although I don't really know if 40k can to turn into a slowly unfolding TV-drama (Game of Thrones?).

I think it would be more important to just expand on the existing lore. There's thousands of years that could be covered, more factions that we could know more about (exodites out of the top of my head, but there are other, entirely different xenos and creatures too) and all kinds of interesting history (The Old Ones, Necrons when they were younger and the Eldar Empire) that could be its entire own setting (like 30k).

Okay okay hold the phone right here. "Imperium lore is the dullest" well at least you guys actually get lore unlike almost everyone else except chaos. I agree the empirer needs to kick the bucket or one of the primarchs needs to show up but for goodness sake please dont complain about imperium lore them and chaos are the only ones with actually subsatntial lore. It may be a but repetitive but GW is trying to fill out the entireity of the 40-50 milleum time area that needs to be filled

They can advance the current lore because they can always go back and make more games involving the golden age or get into more detail about the war vs human AI. Also way back in the day humans worked alongside some xenos instead of against them... you could even have many different human factions like the Interex during the long night. Plus it would be interesting to see what other xenos were doing during this time.

I am hopeful for this stuff and GW is making a big push for product etc and I think the time is coming up where this could really work out... but I'm getting older and so are they and I'd rather the current crew do more than wait to pass the torch I think... I dunno!
  8. the war between men of iron and men of stone is shady and hidden/forgotten for a reason.
Same with the dark age of teknologi.

And one of the importent things to remember about very very minor factions that once existed like the Interex is that they where very minor, with only a few planets.
    Not a Galactic wide Imperium
  9. GW just did the above to WHFB and it excited lot of people...until they ended the whole world and Chaos won and everyone's armies and factions have been Squatted in one fell swoop. It pissed a lot of fans off to kill the world, ebay was swamped with WHFB armies (including mine, I sold for it for $500 US) and the Warhammer world no longer exists.

I'd rather have stagnant 40k than no 40k. Just sayin'.

A bit more on topic, I personally believe the Emperor has so much power via the faith of the Imperium that he will become a 5th warp god once he is unshackled from his material corpse and able to exist in the Warp entirely.
  10. Wait Warhammer Fantasy is over? I haven't checked I a while but I thought I would have noticed this...
