I found one question on it but the answer didn't say much. I know the game is still in alpha stages, but will the buildings be destroyed or being destructible during a intense battle, similar to Battlefield 4, or buildings collapsing due to the destructive power during the battle. It would add a unique way of guarding or destroying a objective such as a Imperium Stronghold or reactors to make the building collapse, and 20 players instantly die. In a way the battle tells a story how it was fought during the game, and during the campaign. It's warhammer 40k, they have ability to blow up planets. I just hate the fact in other games the buildings/terrain doesn't change at all after getting shot by a tank 80 times, and nothing happens. Since the game has predators, I would love to drive through walls, shooting down cover that is helpful for the enemy. Assuming the game will one day have flyers, dreadnoughts, artillery type of tanks like whirlwinds. Other thing is will players have the option to create maps/campaigns for online play? I know EC will have their official campaign but why not give players the ability to create their own maps, knowing what we look for, and desire. We can submit them to the devs or have maps be voted on for the campaign.
Unfortunately this will not be the case due to save server processing capacity, with the only exception being fortresses which will have prefixed destructible gates and wall sections. Many people hoped for destructible terrain and buildings which has a lasting effect on the visual look of Arkhona. I still hope that even while a certain building complex might not be destructible during the match that after completing a mission where you have to destroy e.g. a reactor of a forge that the map is exchanged next ime you play on it with an destroyed building (maybe it might be worth asking the Devs if this would be possible?). Some official posts I quickly found about destrucibles: Q: [39:21] Are there any plans for destructible cover to go with destructible walls? A: Not at the moment. We are currently only doing that in siege battles. - in Twitch Episode Summaries, Warp Echoes Episode #8 Q&A. Q) How will we take over bases or supply lines. Will it be a area you stand in? have to kill a commander to change it? Take control of the whole base, wipe everything that is in there? Also will things be destroy able- etc walls, barrels / A) Brent: We want to split up the zerg, so when it comes to the large bases we're looking at ways to require players to hold multiple points simultaneously to hold the zone. For small bases, this may be a matter of holding a single point. Steven: We'll have discrete destructible areas, perhaps some sections of walls or gates, but the majority of the world will not be destructible. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/954/view/forums/thread/398390/page/1
I believe if other games are capable and their servers can handle it, EC can too as well. I play battlefield it has over 50+ people playing, and terrain is still destructible. I guess gave me a little hope on the last question but it didn't cover much on it. They could make primary objectives become destructive after serious firepower is shot at it, that one faction has to protect it while other has to destroy it. Even though both games are using different engines. Not all the terrain is destructible of course but mainly obvious major parts of the walls, floors, barriers. Even eventually some of the smaller houses or buildings collapse or become rubble. At the end it looks like a damn apocalypse just happened. Where would it be best to place questions for the devs so they could be answered during the live stream?
It's been stated before that it's also a budget issue (Last Twitch if I'm not mistaken). BF has something like 100 times the budget EC has. So in the future possibly, but right now, no. Also. You are not alone in thinking that players could one day create maps. There are dozens of threads on this dating back to the early days of the forum. If you want your question answered by a dev you can invite one to a conversation, or join them on Twitch pretty much every Friday at 2pm EST. It's in the announcements section. Otherwise if you're a founder you can ask questions in the thread they pair with the upcoming twitch, which is in the Founder's Forum. And welcome to the forums. PS they rarely come to this section anymore, they;ve been quite busy with conversations, twitches, and the Alpha.
live in hope ... but dont expect to see it until EC2 comes out in 2025, and only then if bE makes shit-tones of cash off EC
I love BF4's destruction system and while EC is of a similar scope for release, the plan is to transition it to a persistent open-world. Can't really have destroyed buildings that never get rebuilt and if they did regenerate I'd wonder who the hell was busy building Imperial STC structures during a continental battle where no Imperial citizens live anymore Would be nice though but I'd take open-world and permanent structures if forced to choose.
Katie makes a thread in Announcements sub-forum Wednesdays before the stream on Friday which can have a link to the Livestream Q&A thread in the Founders Lounge. There's also the forum Q&A Questions Threads Djemo & Katie do which is in the General Discussions sub-forum, then the answers are posted in the Q&A Answers Compilation Thread in Ask The Team sub-forum. The most recent one just closed and the next one will be open October 31st. Onto the topic, it's an infantry focused game and infantry needs reliable cover for gameplay reasons. Having a good fun and fair fight is best. Battlefield can do it because they had that intent when making the engine plus it is always instanced matches with no variables and a set player count at 64, even then it has cover that can't be destroyed either at all or what's left can't be destroyed further. There's a beginning, battle, and end then everything resets. What we're seeing now is instanced and I don't know how long that will be the case but the goal is still to open things up into large scale so they're building things with that in mind. For a large persistent world with large scale environments & players in a persistent world destructible cover, terrain and structures is much more difficult to pull off. Have to process the things for everyone, process what happens to them by everyone, then has to rebuild them at some point be it from player contributions or a duration. Can still do it of course as we can see but not as widespread or detailed as Battlefield. Players won't be creating maps or campaigns. Devs are doing that to make a persistent world with the goal of being open world, having every player tamper with that would just make a mess of things.Maybe players can make changes to potential ship to ship battles like for guild matches. Devs & narrative will make campaigns but players can decide to follow campaigns or do their own thing. Though with all that said I wonder if we will ever see player built structures. These can and should be destructible, not piece by piece but it will still fall, since it would get dumb pretty fast otherwise (arguably still dumb even then ie a line of small building down a road only there to block vehicles). While the persistent world stays persistent (excluding fortress walls/gates & any secret entrances that need a door blown up). Could there be the chance that as Campaigns, narrative and expansions build to make sweeping updates to the world that changes, adds, or removes things? Similar to what World of Warcraft Cataclysm did. This way would still bring such things as destruction & changes in the environment but it's not actively being done in the moment so not as frequent while also freshening up gameplay and making an evolving game. I don't know how difficult that would be to pull off but it seems easier to me.
