So, you're against giving people random loot, and instead you make them buy crates that give random loot. That's... genius.
Well, That's good, but a bit odd that they're having us test at a lower rate for one currency and a higher one for the other. That information isn't in-game, anywhere. There's a big text description space for the boxes, communicating that kind of information in-game is important- nobody I've spoken to has been familiar with that. On top of that, it seems you can still get really small things from really expensive boxes, like a 2x scope for 20k, so a bigger investment doesn't guarantee a higher floor value. It doesn't feel like loot though. We're buying it, with ingame currency, that we have to work for. It's not like getting random bits after winning a match. And this is the only way to get some rather important build items, like the non-six-shoota Ork pistols or every races' weapon mods. I could live with that being random and getting gear that I don't care for if the stuff I was getting was at least different than what I already had, and there was some concept that getting something I don't need actually improves the odds of getting something I'd like in the future.
I dont really see a problem with random lootboxes, Overwatch is also a 40 dollar game (at least) and there are random lootboxes there. Also they mentioned in one of the livestreams that those boxes are not purchasable, so its not like they are making any money out of it, at least for now. What they could do tho is some kind of system to get tokens faster if you pay for some subscription like they had before with RTP but I don´t think they want to do that either... for now.
Once again, exclusively cosmetic in nature (so far). There's no problem in forking over cash to look slightly worse than the norm.
Would you rather have it so you get full 100% RNG dice roll on what type of loot you get, if any at all? All the in-game currency do is reward performance accordingly, allowing you more/better boxes if you play well. It wouldn't be any less relevant if it comes from shop, people are terrified of the word "shop" without any real reason here, its not F2P game and there isn't any kind of F2P bullshit here. Anyone played Borderlands? Slot machines anyone? Its EXACTLY the same thing, just interface is different. I don't remember people going batshit insane over the fact that you can get items that way there and neither people should lose their shit in here. Plus, really, go and WATCH the twitch stream. ALL base weapons will be in the shop, that includes ALL variants of ork weapons.
- nobody is losing their shit, there are just some people not fully understanding the logic of this decision, take your armour off and save it for another time plz. -plus really: the info should be short clear and to the point, this may come as a shocker, but some people dont wanna wade through over an hour of smalltalk glittergrenade jokes and giveaways just to get to the 2minutes of info. write that shit down. so right now im not sure how stuff will go down, this is what i assume so plz correct me if im mistaken: you can buy the weapons with ingame currency, example I unlock the HB skill, then use ingame currency to buy the actual HB. On top of that i can choose to 'gamble' and spend ingame currency to buy a lootbox. -whats the actual fucking point of lootboxes? - can you sell the items from lootboxes and get some ingame currency for them? I just really fail to see this as anything other than an excercise in futility. Lootboxes should be all the way down the prioritylist.
They may take our accounts and threads, but they'll never take...OUR FREEDOM! Whoops wrong franchise. But now in all hoensty, im not really angry about these boxes. Its just the arguments dont make much sense considering how I and others suggested it. Let me buy what I want, whats the problem with that? If you want to keep people playing, increase the costs for these things a little. It will acutally give me a goal to gather currency. RNG has taken over to many factors of the gaming genre.
and what if instead of random loot boxes which we can't be sure what we are going to get, you'll create some filter-able in game store where we can spend our requisition points (in game currency) directly for the item we need? The thing with RNG, is randomness. such factor is a major buzzkill. I played Mass Effect 3 multiplayer which had similar system and in my over 400 hours of online gamplay on which I got "Best of the Best" medal for completing all challenges (http://n7hq.masseffect.com/home/overview/?name=liron99&platform=pc) I never managed to get complete manifest of all in game items, some items I never got and some upgrades I never maxed. Since then each game which introduced an RNG packs was big no no for me, in SWTOR for example people may purchase packs for real cash but only to sell them in game for in game money so they can directly purchase the exact item they want from other players. Point is, Randomness is bad. If as part of the game design you wish to have some more "Rare" items and upgrades based on the rarity of the occasion then maybe add upgrade system to items which will allow cannibalize parts from number of items in order to unlock new tier of gear. Also please add all basic weapons to all classes as they were before the patch, right now playing fresh character makes you inferior to everyone else as you can't carry proper weapon to counter the enemy. aka AV weapons etc.
They have said they want to make it possible for players to get everything in around 30days subject to playing time. They have also said changes to how it works atm with it are coming soon
