Pretty much getting 2 duplicates allow you for "free" reroll. This is infinitely better then what you get in any other game with similar loot system(vermintide anyone?).
This game is as much an mmo as battlefield is. Lobby shooter: check. Earning ranks to do nothing but unlock gear: check. Vehicle combat with heavy emphasis on capture points : check. massive: nope. Mmo is false advertising here, just like the buzzwords used today on clickbait sites. Once you have played 2 hours it's too late for you to discover its nothing but a sub par shooter that started with grander designs.
I'd quote myself from earlier this year when I said I'm giving this game 8 months tops after launch before it goes F2P, but once again the search function fails me so you'll have to settle for this.
I find it more interesting and telling how the decision was made to put in effort to implement lootboxes instead of a proper worldmap and another 2 dozen things that should be way higher up the prioritylist. "But the devs said..." I don't really care whats being said, i tend to look at whats being done. The most positive explanation is: they have no clue about what the priorities of their game should be.
We use boxes because it gives us far more freedom for us to give different types of rewards, with more selection of boxes over time, it removed the requirement of "picking up loot" on the battlefield which is a horrible experience and giving out random stuff at the end of the game, without any choice of type of box sounds like teh sux as well. Pretty simple actually. It's a simple flexible system. And it uses ingame currency that you earn.
why is picking up loot on the battlefield horrible? I always enjoy the shitstorms of ninja-ing loot etc.
