I don't hate them(thou I will make fun of them just because) but they are as of yet underdeveloped literarily. A quib in the codex just doesn't compare to a feature length novel, but you can guarantee there will be an influx of Black Legion love come ABD's book. However, I still would not choose them as my faction, because Abaddon is meant to be more of a warrior than a leader. I am full aware that his Black Crusades are misrepresented, and he succeeded in most of the goals that they set out to accomplish. However, he's not Warmaster because he is the best strategist, or because he knows how to rule. Command yes, but commanding a bunch of demigod warriors of highly questionable sanity is not the same as ruling an empire, he commands through tyrannical will and the fact that if you cross him he'll flay you alive and mount you as a warning to the next sob who thinks they can screw over the Warmaster.

Still, I can't wait to see him and his Legion developed. Maybe I actually will like his vision..

Well considering the chaos gods have marked him with chaos ascendant and has the rule eternal warrior I simply see it as the gods simply preventing his outright death.

Since who else will rally their armies when they need something taken down?

Pretty much this. BL is just the Chaos version of Smurfs. No real personality and are just "default bad guy" far too much for liking. Contrast them with how unique Night Lords, Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors are and you see how they are not that popular.

Well that's great because all those legions have developed lore and books compared to the black legion. Considering before the night lord novels came out they were not all that popular. Apart from the horus heresy novels what do we have on black legion? A dedicated novel describing how they got to were they are? Nothing.

Anyway the new poster boys for chaos are the crimson slaughters in my opinion. Hell they have much more lore than black legion all the other chaos legions have more dedicated lore than the black legion.

Plus I think its not fair to call Ultramarines/Black Legion lack of personality or etc since I think its disrespecting those who like them. Its like saying you have no taste.

Plus I personally disagree with the fact that the black legion is not unique. Even if I don't like Ultramarines I can apperciate what they do and what they are about every chapter and legion are unique in their own way.

I think the Black Legion don`t get the cred they deserve. Many good points has been made, but also a lot of very bad ones. Those who talk about failbaddon and 13 failed crusades are just ignorant. All that should just be added to slander.

Some say BL lacks more background. It will come and they will gain more fans along the way. ADB is working on that par. I am confident he will fill that void.

As for the legion itself, it has more dominant characters than Abaddon. What about Devram Korda or Ygethmor?
I am sure they will get more coverage in the future. More anti-heros to boost the Legions history.

I will play BL at launch, as well as Word Bearers. But I see them as much more than failed poster boys. I see them as the strong force that the others follow.

I did not make any negative comments towards anyone who likes either BL or Ultramarines. I expressed my opinion as to why the BL is not that popular.

I also will point out that I liked the Night Lords well before the ADB series and even before the IMO best Night Lord novel "Lord of the Night" came out years before ADB's series did. I am glad that Black Library decided to fluff them out and other people now enjoy them instead of the relative small percentage before.

You are probably correct that the new Abaddon series by ADB will boost the BL popularity by giving fans more fluff to actually connect with.

I like black legion, but i will never play them because they are fairly 'Average joe' for my taste. Just chaos undivided.
I like Iron Warriors, who are also chaos undivided but are fairly unique in a way.

Son't get me wrong Black legion are cool, but they don't really have interesting cosmetics for me :<

I don't think Black Legion is Chaos Undivided at all, that's Lorgars stick. More accurately, they are a collection of aligned warbands like the Children of Torment of the Hounds of Abaddon.
