Well someone posted this on ADB's page when he was talking about abbadon and this is the reason why I like the black legion. You can point to an Ultramarine and say “That’s a Space Marine”. You can’t do that with a Black Legionnaire, and say “That’s a Chaos Marine”. Uh, is he a former Son of Horus? A Word Bearer exploring his faith in a new way? A Renegade newly sworn to the Black? A Thousand Son sorcerer? A guy who forgot his original Legion completely? A Khorne Berzerker? All the other legions have HEAPS of lore I even dare say the new crimson slaughters have more lore and information than the black legion hence why everyone likes them. That's why I hope the black legion series written by ABD changes the minds of the people who consider the black legion bland etc since they really just need books and lore to expand on them.
I agree with the quote because it perfectly shows what most of the playerbase misunderstands about the Black Legion. They are not bland or generic, they are the most diverse of all legions since they have monotheistic warbands, Undivided folk, renegades, etc. In fact most of the other legions seem to be pigeonholed into one very specific character/role. Word Bearers are all fanatical zealots, Night Lords are all fearmongering serial killers, World Eaters are all khornate berzerkers, etc. These of course don't represent 100% percent of the given Legion but they form the vast majority. Therefore, fluffwise, writing about the Black Legion or building a thematic army of them gives you a lot more options for characterisation than other legions. Since my favorite legion will be unavaible at launch, the BL's flexibility also makes it ideal to rp an ex-Emperor's Children due to the presence of the Children of Torment in the legion.
neckbeards and noobies will complain about them and the ultras being "to normal" till the end of time. Only true fans can appreciate them. There are far to many noobies flocking to this game...
I like the Black Legion, but it seems all the successes/failures of Chaos in general at the moment is attributed to them. It's like the others don't really exist. That's why they're like the Ultramarines.
I see the Black Legion as being something similar to Deathwatch; any given Marine in the Legion can be from another CSM Legion but be in the BL because they were especially good and got transferred. It seems illogical to hate them, really.
It's fine to hate them as long as you have a legitimate reason to dislike them, instead of just assuming they must suck because the autistic neckbeards on /tg/ say they suck.
Respect all? I dont think you know any fans of 40k. Everybody in 40k hates some aspect of 40k because there is plenty of inconsistency. So you respect Necrons and Blood Angels being best friends right? You respect Draigo defeating a Daemon Primarch? You respect Space Wolves now driving Wolf-drawn Sleighs to deliver the presents of death to their enemies? It is not possible to "respect all" so try again before you attempt to make a blanket statement about an entire fanbase
