Could say that about literally anything in the game, even the old Plasma Cannon, it doesn't mean certain tools are more effective or more easily abused then others. When you look at the hold the line maps and fortresses in a Clan vs Clan stack what are you likely to see? Kannons, lot's of Kannons because of their ability to remove tickets easily. Though with Orks I generally have to sample from smaller groups, from what I gathered from some DLB guys it's generally agreed that no skill weapons like that aren't to be abused.
Counterargument: You claim the Kannon is niche, and fills no other role but area denial. This justifies its damage, speed, everything. The Kannon is a more effective long range anti vehicle weapon than the Zzap Deffgun as well, which also has the same drawbacks of the Kannon at close ranges. It does 1600 vs 1800 damage yes, but 2 second charge and 2 second reload yields a far greater dps against vehicles than 2 second charge 5 second cooldown. On top of that the Kannon does not require a lock to start charging and can be charged preemptively. If it is outperforming another even more niche weapon at that weapon's role, while simultaneously being the best in another role, with no additional drawbacks, is this balanced? The answer is no.
What you've just described is a reason to buff the Zzap Deffgun as much as nerf the Kannon. Y'know, the Zzap Deffgun that NOBODY ever takes. I agree that the AV damage could be reduced or they should add a separate AV shell that has very little or no explosion. Problem solved. There was no counter to the old Plasma Cannon except death. Death was the only counter, and perhaps sneaking up. If you caught one in melee range you had as much chance of getting killed as at any other range. The two weapons aren't even similar in terms of combat effectiveness.
Just nerf it, people will do 10 threads a day until its nerfed. Then they will complain about another weapon, until marines can win easily all the matches
Kannons are not to bad once you make an effort to counter them. Like this. ( Skip to about 1:15) View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoj76YGqXJU&feature=youtu.be The trick is to zoom out while taking the shot with the Las Cannon to maintain 100% accuracy on the shot , it doesn't have 100% accuracy when you are zoomed in making you miss what seems like 70% of the shots when they are braced behind cover like that. Lsm Lost that match with me being top kill score by countering Kannons and other assorted heavy Dakka all game with the lasCannon. Now if only we'd been able to hold the walls .. If only.. And if only i had the Burning Light LasCannon..I heard its got a 1 sec lockon or something stupid ..( Hint Hint)
The OHK blast AoE, sniper-accurate, indirect fire capable, AV viable, zero projectile drop, near instant, no-warning missile launcher can't kill someone who gets the jump on them up close = Niche weapon. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uEnNSclcqI I'm doing a deep dive on the PC for the devs atm and so much of these comparisons are wrong. Come on guys. If you're taking the PC for the zap mode get a HB/AC or Bolter. The Kannon's reload is not a hindrance vs the PC either because if you're any good with it ... who the fuck needs the second projectile? The Kannon vs PC cyclic fire rate comparison argument isn't remotely legit unless you ignore the time to impact. At 150m you can put two Plasma balls on a target in 7s, where the Kannon delivers 2 at 8s, even with it's reload. That's actually hitting the target dead center with a 10m blob at 150m with the un-scoped PC. 200m is where I use the Kannon primarily. edit - Kannon is better at Mortar mode too. This isn't a we want their's case anymore than the Rokkit or sniper PC or nuclear PC was. Too sensitive. It's un-Orky.
