Why Melee Enthusiants Aren't Enthused (And Why Axes Are Terrible)

  1. Let's take a trip down memory lane. Many of these old imbalances are either purposely or unknowingly being reintroduced into game.

And just fyi in case we've forgotten, we don't want to move balance back too far in the other direction where bash is worthless and where fast attack spam rules the day. Bash should work and be ONE OPTION, not THE option that every melee encounter revolves around.

The power attack did not hit the guy. The only damage the enemy received was from the dbash, axe power attacks are too slow to land during the duration of a dbash stun so the enemy had time to swing his knife and cause the attack to clang.

There are plenty of hit detection issues with both melee and ranged, but there were none in that video.

Right you are, I missed that.
  4. Axes are certainly too slow to be viable in the new speed of the game.

Ranged (teammates) is going to kill you most times during melee that goes on very long. Do we want melee to break non-specialists nearly instantly, similar to launch state of the game? Or do we want ranged TTK increased more in line with the previous version? Or another solution?

Personally I'd rather see ranged TTK increased, but not even necessarily all the way to previous 1.2 levels. This is going to make latency issues more tolerable. This also gives Support classes more chance to apply their role. Another nice thing would be likely less teamkills.

It might have been a dream, but there was a time I could launch myself at people with an axe 20ft away. ..yes.... it was too good to not be a dream. :(

Axe, like in space marine, will seemingly be the middle of the road melee weapon. Not fast enough to be viable and not enough power to be viable. Perfectly optimized in between swords and fist to be the poor choice.

Gotta love it when you find those old videos where fists flew around killing people with a scared and confused Space Marine frantically trying to figure out how to detach himself from his rocket propelled, possessed weapon as he is dragged along behind it like a rag doll.

  7. Certainly no worse than that brief time when Power Axes threw you across the room, let alone made you go airborn down an entire flight of stairs.

Although my personal favorite will always be the Superman Lunge Power Klaw™ meta. Ohhhh....those were the days...

LOL at that parrying blow opener. Never thought of trying that out.

Axes can work but it's purely an ambush weapon. Basically, it's stun lock them to death or die trying! Fun and interactive game play!

Also, next time open with the power attack then quick attack bro. Then he would be dead. :OrkGoff:

What I have been noticing is right now faster weapons can clang easier because their strong attacks can wind up instantaneously meaning even if you stunned them or otherwise started a strong attack ahead of time, a knife/sword wielder can hold the RMB and clang the attack rather than taking the hit. In essence the timeframe of the melee RPS is out a whack and skewed to benefit speed over power. This is the biggest reason knives are being used as only swords can match them in speed and so long as your smart, you can stun lock the others

I've killed a Pfist GAs with a Devastator by purely RMB spamming him. He kept getting stunned out of his attack and after about a dozen devastator humps, he was downed. Boy was he pissed off.

On the flipside people some Pfist people are abusing this too against shield wielders. I found that if you take a Pfist and you keep attacking an Ork shield (I have not tested this on a LSM GA), you can effectively clang them until their shield AND weapon breaks and you CANNOT do anything as you keep getting knocked backwards slightly.
