Why isn't progression Faction wide?

  1. I feel this game is far too grindy for this kind of system considering the content available. Not to mention the large disadvantage new characters have vs leveled ones. Not to say the gameplay is bad, no not at all, I'm just saying a Battlefield-esque 3rd person shooter doesn't compliment the - start a new character of the same race from scratch mentality the way an MMO does. This game isn't an MMO, that ship has sailed, and eternal crusade isn't on it.

There is a MASSIVE xp curve from ranks 4-6 compared to ranks 1-3, and then, if you simply want to play as another color of Space Marine (though this is true for all factions) you have to level them up, and unlock all of their gear again? Ya, ya I know, they're different chapters, but why does that matter? There's already some universal RTC cosmetics, why not make everything you've unlocked universal for the faction? I'd love to make a Dark Angel and customize it but it just isn't worth it when I've already got a level 4 Ultra Marine. It's not like there's any differences between the chapters that would make starting over meaningful. And I know for a fact there are many that feel the same way. That's a lot of potential revenue lost from would-be cosmetic sales. I really don't think you guys thought this one through.

I'd be a lot more apt to buy another character slot if I didn't have to start all the way over just to use a green space marine that's on par with my blue one... :(
  2. Well the rank 4 is reacheble for 4-5 hours of gameplay and it unlocks the most useful things. 4000-10000 exp avereage for game. Depends on how fast it ends. I recommend to tank hunting with lascannon, meltas, kannons. A lot of ree exp. Also if you are leader always mark fighting points or vehicles/enemies before they will be killed by allies and try to stay near point capture/interrupt.

Just tested it out on another eldar character and also ork after additional slots became aviable to purchase. Its not rly a hard thing to get new character fast with high rank.

  3. No, it takes much longer than that to get to rank 4. That's besides the point. Why should I have to split my time maxing between identical characters in the same faction when they aren't any different? Do you honestly think this is a good system? Especially when a lot of the meaningful upgrades don't come until rank 5, which takes substantially longer. Once you max out a character in a faction, you shouldn't have to do it again.

I can only come to 2 conclusions.

    1) This is a byproduct from the games sordid past as the MMO shooter to kill all MMO shooters and it has just been forgotten

    2) It's intentionally built this way to arbitrarily lengthen gameplay time.
  4. I dont think its bad system. I find it a bit challenging to go as low rank against high ones.

Even the rank 6 doesnt give you ultimate opportunities to dominate above low ranks. A guy with basic loadout can outplay a veteran if will do thing right.
  5. A veteran with a coherent loadout cannot be killed 1 v 1 by a standard loadout character. They'd have to be exceptionally incompetent for that to be true.

But I'm interested, what makes you feel this system is fine? I can understand some people not minding the grind, but that doesn't mean it's objectively good. It's needlessly repetitive.
  6. Just look this video
A guy create a new character before each game and let some steam out of poor guys.

  7. So, why should you have to unlock gear and advancements potentially 4 separate times? The fact that one person happened to do alright with a basic character doesn't address the inherent flaw in the needless repetition of the current system.

And if that video supposedly proves what little difference advancements and gear make, why not make them universal?

If it helps, I believe they intend to add a paid 'change subfaction' option at some point.

Or an Ork, if you're playing as Eldar. Funny to see Ork players saying they quit queues against Eldar when they're the faction we struggle with the most (hardly a surprise given our average EHP disparity of 70 against them).
