From what I can remember from latest twitch it would seem bolter is going to get a indirect buff, currently all classes beyond a few eldar ones take reduced damage due to the 80pen vs 100 toughness default, but that is getting changed to 100 vs 100 so no class will by default take reduced damage from the bolter or equivalents.
The bolter is incredibly good, definitely one of the better assault rifle class weapons. It's versatile with great ammo capacity when modded up.

Indeed, this thread is very very old and the result of an influx of new players at launch back in September, the majority of which decided to play a faction which happened to possess the high skill-ceiling weapons High accuracy with low recoil may not sound like high skill ceiling, but if you've ever tried to play the sniper in TF2, tribes, or overwatch, you know damned well how difficult those kinds of weapons are to use in a fast-paced environment. Especially when you take into account low clip sizes and fire rates making every single individual shot far more important than an individual shot from any other weapon, meaning that to maintain the same effective DPS as another weapon you need to have a far higher average accuracy. This is the Boltgun plight, its really good, its just fucking hard to use compared to the Eldar and Ork "Spray n' Pray" weapons which are really only limited by their abysmally short effective range (at least when compared to the boltgun)
I have played quite a bit of that game now and tried pretty much all weapons but still, good ol' boltgun with its little modifications is a special love of mine.
