I guess many players agree that the current melee system is, if to say politely, not good, it doesnt require any skills from players to win and, apart from bugs which are being fixed, doesnt encourage any strategy in melee. There were already many arguments exlaining why the current melee system is....well, not good and yet its most obvious flaw remains unchanged. Could we please finally get rid of this melee lock-on? I dont understand why it's here at all, what point is in this feature when you can simply hold one button and follow your opponent accurately no matter how dexterous and skillful he is? This is especially annoying once you play for a shooting class and you become engaged in melee with a melee-specialised class- unless your foe is not a total noob, he will beat you down in almost 100% of cases, no matter how hard you try to evade - if you stun him, the effect's duration is too short and when you're finally ready to fire he is already recovered and continues to attack. As many players had already pointed out, ANYONE, even with a knife against a foe with a power fist, should be able to prevail in melee thanks to his skills and the first step towards this happening is removal of melee lock-on. I'm not a programmer but I'm sure it can easily be done - say, it still works while you aim with a pistol but once you push or hold RMB it just resets and you have to direct your strikes for yourself.
I think its because lunge distances are too big. So if you were unlocked you would fly across the room and do massive laps while spamming RMB. Seriously, the distances are weird. Like Warlocks and Scorpions have no range on their quicks, yet Banshees cover as much ground as a Space Marine does.
That's why I'm sure it should be removed and these ridiculously large distances reduced as well. If you aim bad - get it, your super powerful weapon kisses the wall and you're vulnerable for a second for backstabbing. It has just always been this way - guys with big choppas kick asses of those with no big choppas, no skills required, just hold one button and SMASH everything on your path
I like it but yes lunge distance is to long or maybe rolling is to short and dbash is shit you should be able to stun the enemy and have time to turn and run but right now u stun them then they gut you no time to do anything but yeah I like the lock on
As the devs stated, they are keeping an eye on melee. However, for the content update that was just released, only dbash actually made the cut. I'd say the rest is yet to be determined, as they have to isolate specific problems and then think of a way to fix them. Sure, a lot of the problems we witness on a day-to-day basis might seem grievously obvious to us, but less so to others. Balancing such things is walking a fine line.
Why wouldnt melee lock be in game? Its part of 3d games since it was first created, in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Almost 20 years should be enough to get familiar with the system. Also: If someone with a knife should be able to prevail in a fight against a power fist then a guy using a pistol should be able to prevail against someone using an autocannon in a firefight. Until then no, a knife user shouldn't be able to exchange hits with someone using a power fist. Warhammer 40k is also about melee. If you deslike it (and it seems like) you should try one of these generic FPS games around.
non smart or smart, exchanging shots with an autocannon is madness. Should be the same with a knife versus power fist (thats crap as you can only use fast attack due to how long the strong takes to charge)
As far as I know, lock on was said that it would never be removed. Think Brent said it? Could be wrong. Although i would love to see it gone to be entirely honest.
