Why Hawks instead of Spiders?

Weaponized teleporting was a thing in Quake, I used to play semi-pro (there was no pro Quake really back in the Q2/3 days), with that said - I think I can count on 2 fingers the number of times I remember a telefrag actually occurring in one of my tournament matches.

That said, telefragging a tank does sound overpowered, and doesn't sound too hard to do - part of the reason it didn't really happen in Quake was because the teleporters were gateways from one part of the map to another, and you were often essentially going into them blind (they had attached cameras, but it wasn't useful for prediction). So essentially someone had to try to use the teleporter at the same time as you were exiting it - and given competitive players never wanted to do anything blind, not a common problem.

A WS could actually target the tank and predict the distance - and that would enable intentional telefragging.

Could we enable collision detection for WS teleporters? So they can't go through walls / objectives / players / tanks? Then if you try to telefrag a tank, you'd just slam into the wall instead: no telefragging drama.

Aye, you make a fair point, I hadn't considered the effect it would have on elites. I guess you could always have it so telefragging only knocked off a chunk of their health rather than killing them outright. Not desperately realistic, but would still make for a fun system. :)
  3. ... Or, just dont reward cheeseball dick moves like that??? I think the entire onus of a safe landing should be on the player. Enter a space that is occupied by ANY thing and you are lost in the warp dead, gone, repawn. This is a skill game right? a class that can warp in with no warning shoot and scoot out should have a danger level attached to it, not a reward for "mistakenly" jumping into some one, because we all know in a competitive video game people are always above board and NEVER take advantage of "features"....

Well, I was meaning it should be an intentional dick move, so its cheeseball factor is only relative to the difficulty of doing anything else. If you can one-shot enemies by headshotting them with a Stalker Bolter, for example, then it's no more cheeseball to telefrag them as a Warp Spider, assuming both are roughly as difficult to do.
  5. but you cant. Stalkers still require more than one hs. and that to me doesnt quite equate or we are envisioning things differently(most likely)

Me- A group of enemy are holding thier last strong point before they are wiped out... Enter a Warp Spider sqd... *bamph* done or may as well be. instead of an actual fight they just die. Now im all for Eldar being OP, but that would just suck. Even if it were an elite unit as an arm chair general I would use this tactic. And talk about un eldar... not enough of us left in this cesspool of a universe for suicide tactics(even if it would be funny in a way)

We probably are. :p Source of 99% of conflict on the internet.

I don't mind hawks instead of spiders, they are just as cool and for the devs, likely easier to create.

Now, that doesn't mean we won't get spider exarch in the future for example as RTN class.

I'm just happy the eldar is finally happening, can't wait until they will be playable.

Yeah when we finally see the hawk model it will be a great day.
  9. Might be next week the rate they're going! :)
